I have a question. Why do we refer to King as Doctor Reverand. Why do we hide his name behind all that nonsense. I think people ofte misrepresent King with the name game. His message was true then and true now. I'm 62 years old and I remember the revolution. Honestly I think white America has turned our Black freinds against us. Things haven't gone 10steps back, they've totally been flipped backwards, like a mirror. The problem is, we've put so much focus on helping a cause that we honestly don't understand. How can we explain why both white and black people are so racist towards each other. We were all put here the same way, no matter what faith we live by, we were all put here at the same time the same way. I spoke to a man in K.C. who said that T.V. gave him racist thoughts, another man said that his parents brought him up in a racist environment. There is no excuse to hate people because were so narrowminded. If you are a Racist, then it is your own fault. It all goes back to the basics, " do unto others as you would want them to do to you". So when we become racist, we're also giving opposite races reason to hate us back.

its horribly unfortunate people want to have others to blame for their own shortcomings rather than diminishing them by "longoings" but advertising and the society contruct instructs us to compete hurt be better by making someone worse not to share and see the beauty of our all too short temporary existence but they control the money flow through "wareligion" in other word s hope and fear the two biggest whitemailers in the world

There will always be racism in America.
King was telling us to stop and think about why that is- and take positive action.
That positive action today, doesn't mean marching in the streets. That positive action starts at home by teaching our children to nurture their dreams through hard work and the pursuit of knowledge.

For the record,it was whites who started all this inequality.you all forget, blacks did not create the system, whites did.the system was meant to cater to white society.when i say the "SYSTEM" i mean who,s in control,is it controled by blacks? NO. this system is not negro freindly.african americans distrust for the system is valid.it is whites who are most racist toward blacks.it is buisness as usual under white supremacy.

we CAN make a difference. Hate is wrong. Please remember that neither Jesus nor Dr. king itaught us to use violence.. If you believe that violence is the only way then both have died in vain. The truth will set us free!
NEVER FORGET,"The greatest of these is love.".

His name is not and never was Martin Luther King Jr - - - his name is Michael King. If you do some research you should read The Beast as Saint: The Truth about "Martin Luther King, Jr." or go to www.martinlutherking.org/thebeast.org/thebeast.html

why are you worshiping Martin Luther instead of Rosa Parks, etc. someone who actually practiced what they preached?? and yeah, sorry you "been in Iraq" i really am but what does that have to do with anything? no one is thinking like a da*n terrorist.... or the klan... no one is disputing what he did. it is how he went about it. do you not know what he did the night before he was killed? did you not see the picture of him in the communist training class? he wasnt there "for fun" come on...
I will just end with this. In the year 2027 we will see. The records, tapes, pictures, etc. will be opened for all of America to view. Now how many of you degenerate supporters are going to march on Washington to stop it. I can imagine many will. No one is disputing the good done. I think civil rights should have a day like Memorial Day, Veterans, Day etc. Just take his name out of it. Do you know who George Washington Carver was. He believed if you want change you must first exemplify change. The truth will be told eventually. it is run by white supremacist but it is documented. Maybe they are the only ones with the balls to print the truth. I don't believe in racism I wasn't brought up that way but there are many other people you could attempt to "model after". Personally my God doesn't allow lying, stealing, adultery, violence and well all I can say is I hope his God did.
there are other sources to the articles the site is talking about... i truly do not believe that The New York Times would print anything false - - - check out all the sources before you go assuming things....

Sir, my father is a marine and did 3 tours in Vietnam. I support the veterans and extremely proud to be an American and of my heritage. Sir my only thought to you is do not come at me calling me a wizard. I think Civil Rights is an awesome thing. I have 2 bi-racial nephews that I am raising. God, only knows where there father is and my sister is deceased. I am bringing them up to be proud of all of their backgrounds and cultures. I am also teaching them that if a person is good enough to be looked up to then you will not find any skeletons in their closets. Because, they practice what they preach and they believe in what they say and live that way. How dare you call me a Grand Wizard. Would you happen to be a member of the Black Panthers? The same can be said for you, Sir. I believe if anything you want or dream of can be gained by hard work. Had it not been Mr. King that rallied the people for the greater good it would have been someone else. I do not feel that he should be celebrated he did not do it alone. There were many before him and many more after him that were decent hardworking people that actually stood for and backed up their beliefs... Or do you not know your American History?

While MLK was a great man who did a lot of good, he was also an adulterer and had other faults. I believe the emphasis on MLK is unfair and unwarranted. There are many other people who have done just as much for civil rights and for the improvement of the world: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and all the rest of the founding fathers, as well as Susan B. Anthony, W.E.B DuBois, Mark Twain, Ghandi, and many others. I don't view this as Martin Luther King, Jr. day, but as Civil Rights Day--THAT's what's important, not just MLK.

So, catch a clue, people. Get an unbiased view of history and world. Also, those who call for the death of racists are just as bad as the racists themselves, and probably are also racist. Anyone who says they are against racism and yet promotes one race of people over another is a hypocrite, and a foul human being.

And, third point: Whenever you post a comment online that is riddled with misspellings, poor grammar, weak and juvenile arguments, name-calling and other demonstrations of ignorance, you just undermine your cause and make yourself look stupid. Pay attention to what you're doing and give some thought to your actions, you may find yourself speaking, acting and thinking differently, and, at the very least, you and your arguments will garner more respect and thought everywhere you go.

Our society is obsessed with power. Of all the thinkers in human history, no one defines power better than Dr. Martin Luther King???
??? There is nothing wrong with power if power is used correctly. You see, what happened is that some of our philosophers got off base. And one of the great problems of history is that the concepts of love and power have usually been contrasted as opposites - polar opposites - so that love is identified with a resignation of power, and power with a denial of love.
It was this misinterpretation that caused Nietzsche, who was a philosopher of the will to power, to reject the Christian concept of love. It was the same misinterpretation of power that induced Christian theologians to reject the Nietzschean philosophy of the will to power in that name of the Christian idea of love. Now, we???ve got to get this thing right. What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands in the way of love.???
These words might serve as the litmus test as to who is fit to lead our country.
The best way to honor Dr. King is to make his dream come true.

We need to reassert our position as leader of the word by following these words by Dr. King:
??? America, the richest and most powerful nation in the word, can
well lead the way in this revolution of values. There is nothing to prevent us from paying adequate wages to schoolteachers, social workers, and other servants of the public to ensure that we have the best available personnel in these positions which are charged with the responsibility of guiding our future generations. There is nothing but a lack of social vision to prevent us from paying an adequate wage to every American citizen whether he be a hospital worker. laundry worker, maid, or day laborer. There is nothing except short- sightedness to prevent us from guaranteeing an annual minimum - and liveable - income to every American family. There is nothing, except a tragic death wish, to prevent us from reordering our priorities, so that the pursuit of peace will take precedence over the pursuit of war. There is nothing to keep us from remodeling a recalcitrant status quo with bruised hands until we have fashioned it into brotherhood. (From ???Where do we go from here????)
This needs to be the backbone of our domestic policy.

The media is full of chatter about the wonders of the global economy. Dr King was particularly prescient about globalization:
???A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth. With righteous indignation, it will look at thousands of working people displaced from their jobs with reduced incomes as a result of automation while the profits of employers remain intact, and say ???This is not just.??? It will look across the oceans and see individual capitalist of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa, and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of these countries and say,???This is not just.???
... A true revolution of values will lay hands on the world order and say of war,???This way of settling differences is not just.???
We need to remember these words whenever we negotiate trade treaties. We need to revise all of the rules of the World Bank, IMF, and NAFTA with these ideals in mind.

Americans need to be aware of what Dr. King said about America???s destiny
???One Day we will have to stand before the God of history and we will talk in terms of things we have done. Yes, we will be able to say we built gargantuan bridges to span the seas, we built gigantic building to kiss the skies. Yes, we made our submarines to penetrate the oceanic depths. We brought into being many other things with our scientific and technological power.
It seems to me I hear the God of history saying, ???That was not enough! But I was hungry and ye fed me not. I was naked and ye clothed me not. I was devoid of a decent sanitary house to live in and ye provided no shelter for me. And consequently, you cannot enter the kingdom of greatness. If ye do it to the least of these, my brethren, ye do it until me.??? That???s the question facing America today. (From the speech, ???Remaining Awake through a Social Revolution.???)
We need to remember these words this year as we vote.

  • Posted By: Mwalimu @ 01/21/2008 11:46:46 PM

Religion is a constant political issue. In fact, the Republicans affixed the cross of Jesus to the speaker???s podium at the 2004 Republican convention to show what faith they favored. Let???s see how Republican practices square with what Martin Luther King had to say.
???Dives didn???t go to Hell because he was rich; Dives didn???t realize that his wealth was his opportunity. It was his opportunity to bridge the gulf that separated him from his brother, Lazarus. Dives went to hell because he passed by Lazarus every day and never really saw him. He went to hell because he allowed his brother to become invisible. Dives went to hell because he maximized the minimum and minimized the maximum. Indeed Dives went to hell because he sought to be a conscientious objector in the war against poverty. (From ???Remaining Awake through a Great Revolution.???)

  • Posted By: Mwalimu @ 01/21/2008 11:46:19 PM

    A prevailing political attitude is the glorification of greed and selfishness. Here???s what Martin Luther King had to say about that attitude;
???All life is interrelated. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality: tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. As long as there is poverty in this world, no man can be totally rich even if he has a billion dollars. As long as diseases are rampant and millions of people cannot expect to live more than twenty or thirty years, no many can be totally healthy, even if he just got a clean bill of health from the finest clinic in America. Strangely enough, I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. You can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the way the world is made. (Sermon.. ???The American Dream.???)

  • Posted By: Mwalimu @ 01/21/2008 11:45:35 PM

To commemorate Dr. King, I decided to include one of my favorite quotes.
We are facing an election. Let???s judge the candidates by how the square with these words.
??? I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits. I believe that what self-centered men have torn down, other centered men can build up. I still believe that one day mankind will bow before the alters of God and be crowned triumphant over war and blood shed, and nonviolent redemptive good will shall proclaim the rule of the land..??? (From the ??? Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech.???)
We ought to elect people who adhere to this ideal.

I respect Dr. King so much for all he did for this nation. He had a vision, and while we are not quite to the point of fulfililng his vision in it's entirity, we have come many steps closer. I believe that everyone on this site needs to stop pointing fingers at each other. It seems like some people want to take steps backwards, and all we can do to help this nation be a better one is to take steps forwards. There are white people who are still racist, and there are black people who are under the assumption that every white person hates them and to think that way is very nieve. Do we ALL have prejudices? Yes, but we can't let that blurr the big picture that Dr. King saw...everyone living side by side in peace. We all are accountable for ourselves and our own actions. We can't be accountable for someone else's thoughts and actions. Times have changed and the negativity that people still put out...even on here...towards whites and blacks needs to end. It isn't right. So if you truly do want to remember the Dr. King and all he stood for, think about how he stood for it. He didn't preach hate or do harmful things to people. Look at yourself...how do you want to be remembered?

MLK would not have stood still for the resegregation of urban America, the poverty of urban education, the denial of access to health care, the abuse of immigrants, the separation of rich and poor and America's continued faith in violence as the solution to problems at home and abroad. Most of the people he cared most above, janitors and other contingent, low wage workers, get nothing from his holiday. The content of our characters has not been real great either.

Who did Dr. King has the affair(s) with? Because I have never any of these stories that was actually have any proven facts to support these allegations. Lets be for real. I dont know of any one who is perfect but GOD. Its so convenient for individuals to point out fictional information but dont try diminish what he meant to millions of people in this nation. We dont put down Lincolon or Washington so why put down MLK? Wait hold up.. Dont forget that Jefferson slept with a slave and a child was conceived. Surely, you didnt mention him? If you have proven facts, please provide links. Thanks!!!

Yes, it's true that Jefferson conceived a child with one of his slaves, but he didn't call himself "Reverend", either.

Civil Rights Martyr or Communist? Don't let the main stream media make the call for you....
On Labor Day, 1957, a special meeting was attended by Martin Luther King and four others at a strange institution called the Highlander Folk School in Monteagle, Tennessee. The Highlander Folk School was a Communist front, having been founded by Myles Horton (Communist Party organizer for Tennessee) and Don West (Communist Party organizer for North Carolina). The leaders of this meeting with King were the aforementioned Horton and West, along with Abner Berry and James Dumbrowski, all open and acknowledged members of the Communist Party, USA. The agenda of the meeting was a plan to tour the Southern states to initiate demonstrations and riots.

    • Posted By: Seronac @ 01/21/2008 9:41:01 PM

Yes, he was also a Communist, and it seems that a great deal of his doctoral dissertation was plaigiarized. Although he was a great orator and had a wonderful dream, the more I learn of the man, the less I respect him. He was not a great as this day makes him out to be, and he certainly doesn't deserve a holiday in his honor. I suspect that this holiday has more to do with black racism than with commemoration. Again, this day should be to remind us of the cost and rewards of human rights, not the life of hypocrites.
