Dr. Martn Luther King was one of the great leaders fought a socitey for our eqality today. This is a great day to repect back to those dark days and to be graceful that MLK had a dream that came true in which he paid the price for his life. I don't know anyboby in today's society who are willingly to do that besides the people in the military or law enforcement.

Today (as always), I salute Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and all of those freedom fighters before him, who died in the pursuit of bringing about change in a morally ignorant society. I'm very thankful for his courage and tenacity...for it allows me to live out my dreams...and become one of his. The world is a better place due to your efforts...Dr. King,Thank You !

if he didn't make as big a splash as he did and become a target of white supremicist violence the civil rights act never would have reached Johnsons desk.

I totally agree with all of your comments that you have made....I'm just making a comment on what happens to me everyday because my best friend that I've had since i was 12yrs old is black....I understand what is going on and it will always be there for as long as we live but what happens if we stand up for what we believe in white or black? Do you think we can make a change and shut the people up that are racists thats where it should start.....Telling the people that have racists comments to shut there mouthes or were going to shut it for them...

  • Posted By: undi246 @ 01/21/2008 8:45:00 AM

I'm not saying we should keep our mouthes and I know it's always going to be there for as long as their are asses out there that don't care....But we can always have hopeful thinking and have dreams like everyone else does on this issue....Don't you think I wish I could go to my best friends house in the hood or him coming to my house not having to worry about people thinking bad things about each one of us because we are in the "wrong neighborhood"

Stille to this day the Rev. dream is still trying to get to the public. Everytime we almost get there something stupid happens and everyone takes the 10 steps back compared to the 1 step forward it took us so long to take... But always remember this that if our parents didn't open our mouthes about racism when we got to the age of 11 or 12 would we all be like this or would we be like the children we once were and not have a care in the world about who our friends were or even care about the color of their skin. I hope one day this will all go away and we would all be able to do what the characters did in "Time to Kill" when they went into the others neighborhood to just have dinner or just get together and be the friends we are meant to be.....Rev's dream will live on forever.....Wish I could've saw him but I wasn't even a twinkle in my parents eyes yet .....Have a wonderful day for whomever reads this comment...

Things have not changed much when race and class come into play. to bad there are more african americans in prison than in college.health care is substandard amogst african americans.fair housing is a thing of the past, just ask the folks in new orleans.public education is at critical mass accross the country.we spend over 5 billion a month in iraq, who had nothing to do with 911,oppps thats another topic.fix these schools instead of doing nothing but replacing them with charter schools.dr king would be sad if he knew that we did not take care of home 1st,but try to fix someone elses home

a good thing for our karma that it isnt a shopping holiday? mmphhhahaha.. i thought it a funny phrase.
martinluther king was hated. anyone that is an activist is never liked. martin is an example to any minority that feels exploited, and need inspiration to fight back. its a text lesson as strong as any biblical moral ending story to teach. the most imporatnt thing is judgmen t. learn to fight when integrity ethics respect are at play. ( donot fight because of bruised ego, greed, opression of a feeling that is unjustified by non existing supressors, except your own fears. ty

roy_byrd3...Your comment is SO true. I applaud your intelligence on the subject. Too bad everyone doesn't share the same values, morals and integrity.

This should be a day of reflection by all Americans but particularly African-Americans. We need to come together economically, politially, and spiritually. This is nothing new. We have all been saying these things for years but we as a people are caught up in petty-trivialisms. Gucci, Prada, Hilfiger, Klein, Polo, and other designers have become role models vs. education, business, family. It's not about what time happy hour stops at the club. It's about what time we as a people wake up, move forward, and complete the work Dr. King and others started. Happy Birthday Dr. King. RIP.

    Violence and Hate-
I n order to eliminate violence and hate, we must eradicate ill feelings, envy, jealousy, etc...
This can be done by thinking in a new way. Do not allow your emotions to rule your physical actions. When you sense negative feelings, step back and do not react to your first thoughts. Make a concerted effort to do
nothing. Take a walk, think of something else. Sometimes one thinks that he must act like he is upset to get
a certain action on the part of another person but that is only fueling negativity. Negativity begets negativity.
Remain calm. Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to instill fear in another person. This is self destructive.
As you destroy this other person's self-esteem, you end up diminishing yourself. You diminish yourself in that person's eyes. You reduce or eliminate your crreative thoughts. You are no longer trustworthy and the overall result of your actions is one of a "big loss" in God's eyes. Remain "actively" calm.
Actively calm implies that all of your senses are in play. You are listening intently. You may not be looking directly at the person but you are 'sensing" or feeling him. You are reading his body language. If he is talking, you are letting his words sink into your soul. Your reaction should be one of trust and openedness.
You must allow the person to 'have a way out."
But at all times, you are "profiling" him, to make sure that a possible impulsive act does not harm you.
You are also looking for an opportunity to 'disarm" the person and bring him back into God's space.
As you open up your senses, God's thoughts enter into your mind. his thoughts are powerful. You must trust them and follow them.
What prevents you from violence and hate?
If you are thinking about being gentle and kind, if you are thinking about trying to see "the big picture," if you are thinking about "uplifting mankind", and if you are thinking about "giving" rather than "taking", then violence and hate will not enter into your mind but if it does, it will not dominate, control or cause negative actions.
This thought process requires courage and persistence. It also requires that you not be afraid.
Do not be afraid to go forward and try new relationships.
There are many "small" lights in the world. Your role will be to incorporate your small light with the other lights to generate a "new" world order where God and humanity is King. Where people matter, where people count, where life, all life is precious, where man and nature is working in harmony.

Respect is earned not legislated - one is harder than the other.
