Service Discussion Guidelines

We welcome your participation in article and blog comment threads, chat rooms, discussion forums, and other opportunities that we provide for you to submit, add, transmit, post, or provide written, photographic, audio, video, and other content to the Service. We encourage you to analyze, comment on and even challenge Newsweek.com's articles, blogs, reviews and multimedia features. It is our hope that you'll take the opportunity to interact with leaders in our community, with the journalists, editors and management of Newsweek and with other Newsweek.com users.

In order to keep these experiences enjoyable and interesting for all of our users, we ask that you follow the rules outlined below. By participating in Live Discussions or Reader Forums, or by submitting comments to articles, blogs, reviews or multimedia features, you are acknowledging that you have read, understand, consent to, and will comply with these rules. Failure to follow these rules may result in consequences including rejection or removal of any content a user posts, or suspension or revocation of a user's account or ability to provide content to the Service.

1. You agree that you are fully responsible for the content that you post. You will not knowingly post content that violates the copyright, trademark, patent or other intellectual property right of any third party, and you will remove the same should you discover that you have violated this provision. Likewise, you may not post content that is false, misleading, libelous, defamatory, obscene, abusive, that violates a third party's right to privacy or publicity, that otherwise violates any applicable local, state, national or international law, or that is otherwise objectionable or inappropriate. You will indemnify Newsweek, its employees, agents, and affiliates from any and all claims and/or damages (including but not limited to reasonable attorneys' fees) resulting from any claim brought by any third party relating to content you have posted. You may not post content that degrades others on the basis of gender, race, class, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual preference, disability or other classification. Epithets and other language intended to intimidate or to incite violence will not be tolerated. Furthermore, you may not impersonate others.

2. You understand and agree that your submission of content is lawful.  You may only post content that you own, or that you otherwise have the right to post.  In addition, you must obtain all necessary permission from any individuals identified in or implicated by your submission (including those shown in photographic or video content), and, in the case of minors, also from their parents or legal guardians, as appropriate.

3. You understand and agree that Newsweek.com is not responsible for any content posted by third parties. You further understand that, newsweek.com may not monitor the content posted. Nevertheless, Newsweek.com may monitor or review any user-generated content as it chooses and reserves the right to remove, reject, or revise content that it deems inappropriate or otherwise objectionable for any reason whatever without consent.

4. You understand and agree that user content is to be used only for non-commercial purposes. You may not solicit funds, promote commercial entities or otherwise engage in commercial activity in the content you post.

5. The discussion forums are for text only. Use of graphics, audio, and video is not permitted except where specified by Newsweek.com.

6. You acknowledge and agree that you use and/or rely on any information provided by other users at your own risk. Newsweek.com is not in any manner endorsing the content of the content that users post and cannot and will not vouch for its reliability.

7. For any content that you post, you hereby grant to Newsweek.com the royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive and fully sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such content in whole or in part, world-wide and to incorporate it in other works, in any form, media or technology now known or later developed.
