Neither John McCain or Mike Huckabee are right for America. Both have very questionable records.
Both are unreliable; you don't know what they are going to pull next!

The clear choice is Mitt Romney. The most common sense person to choose; for our national sovereignty and our national economy.

My God, Ross Perot is still and idiot.

Attributing Chinese success to the number of characters in their alphabet (I doubt the average Chinese student learns all 3000) is testimony to his predilection for easy answers.

China???s success is due to bad trade alliances, lack of human rights, wanton pollution, currency manipulation all nurtured by American big business greed and fed with American consumer spending (which is drying up fast).

Foreign nationals hold the most graduate degrees because their countries pay our universities handsomely for preferential treatment.

Perot should just shut up ??? he???s a moron.

I would have guessed that Ross would be for RON PAUL.

Bill Mah....you're a small man. McCain almost died aboard an aircraft carrier that caught fire. His father and grandfather are WWII heroes and legends. McCain was a fighter pilot who flew plenty of missions. A telephone pole size surface to air missle made by the Soviets tore his jet to pieces and he parachuted with a broken leg and arm into a lake where he almost drowned. The enemy then bayoneted him in the shoulder. He spent the first three weeks in fever near death.

HOW DARE YOU. I DESPISE PEOPLE LIKE YOU....saying he was a terrible pilot and deserved to be shot down?! My God....this is the group of people to elect our next President?

    • Posted By: Sam_lowrey @ 01/17/2008 3:39:36 PM

Right - "almost dying" makes you qualified. I forgot that.

His father stabbed the survivors of the USS Liberty attack in the BACK. He wanted to cover it all up. McCain has done the same.

I can't believe the Perot bashers on here. Are you that jealous that you don't have the brains or guts to be a self made billionaire...

  • Posted By: Thomas Jefferson @ 01/17/2008 3:34:52 PM

    RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT.

  • Posted By: oldschool @ 01/17/2008 2:50:04 PM

How dare any of you assault McCain's military/POW record. My cousins was killed in Vietnam. My uncle had 3 combat tours. I'm a former Light Infantry Captain/Paratrooper. If you haven't served in the military or combat arms shut your mouth after you thank others for your freedom. Our current President and the last are draft dodgers and cowards. The author, Perot...bitter man...and any who put stock in Perot's words are pathetic individuals.

    • Posted By: Sam_lowrey @ 01/17/2008 3:34:30 PM

The biggest threat to our freedom comes from the military and the Founding Fathers were well aware of it (why they had the 2nd Amendment added). Look at military confiscating weapons from people in Louisianna - watch the video.

  • Posted By: oldschool @ 01/17/2008 3:07:53 PM

thanks for Perot's military record. No one questioned it. He is not a war veteran. And he is despicable for disparaging McCain's 5.5 years of torture. McCain spent more time in prison than Perot served on his boat.

    • Posted By: Sam_lowrey @ 01/17/2008 3:31:44 PM

Spending time in prison is somehow laudable?

    • Posted By: BillMah @ 01/17/2008 3:13:06 PM

Thats because he's a lousy pilot and was shot down.

  • Posted By: ArtRicMac @ 01/17/2008 3:20:38 PM

Where is all this evidence, if it exists. Perot may be a rich business man but that does not mean he is a good judge of anything political and yeah he does sound like a nut-case at times. But to defame someone who has given so much for his country as McCain has is reprehensible !!!

  • Posted By: td_inRachacha @ 01/17/2008 1:19:37 PM

Comment: He was spot on with his predictions for the future of this country. But the Rubes in this country keep voting for the person that the MSM tells them to and we get more of the same, more of the same, more of the same. What was the reward to those same Rubes blindly listening to the MSM. The MSM corporations get richer, we get poorer and the Rubes line up AGAIN to pick more of the same because the MSM tells them they are "agents of change".

When will the pathetic coutnry stop with the I can't vote for a 3rd party because they will lose mentality.

There will be a 3rd possibly 4th party with legit chances of winning this year. This is our chance to take our country back.

Forget the Repubs and Dems, you are all being fooled, WAKE UP and turn off your TV"S

    • Posted By: Sam_lowrey @ 01/17/2008 1:45:38 PM

Well said - I'm canvassing for Ron Paul. Amazes me people actually listen to the MSM any more.

      • Posted By: td_inRachacha @ 01/17/2008 3:19:26 PM

I thank you for your work. We're all out here trying our best.

Hopefully we'll wake up a few.

Best of luck and Congrats on fighting the good fight

What exactly is the point of this article and how did an editor ever OK it?

So you received a call from an over-the-hill, addle-brained has-been who wanted to spew his paranoid, incoherent opinions regarding a presidential race he obviously has no actual knowledge of. This story should have focused on how unfortunate it is that America's elderly billionaires aren't receiving proper medical attention. Seriously. Somebody should fire the caretaker that allowed Mr. Perot to use the telephone without supervision.

The subtitle of the article says Perot "blasts John McCain". Perot doesn't have the faculties to BLAST anybody!! He drooled on John McCain. If the author of this article had any respect for Mr. Perot, Newsweek or his professional reputation, he would have listened politely to Perot's rantings and when he was done called his nursing home to let them know what he was up to. Instead, he tried to disguise the sad musings of a confused geriatric as a legitimate story. How pathetic!

Mr. Alter, is your ego so deflated that you had no choice but to cry "An important person called me! An important person called me!! That makes me important too . . . doesn't it?"

If you had the capacity for restraint, Mr. Alter, you could have let this one slide under the radar and saved yourself and Mr. Perot's family some uneeded embarassment.

Sorry Saltydog_o, your diatribe does not stand simply on the merits that you can spell and use decent-sized words. Basically, that was the only thing truly appreciable about your post. You offered no real insight except into your personality which is apparently filled with worthless banter deriding obviously successful people.

Please note that YOU are on HIS page writing about him. You are in the inferior position and so your mighty words seem silly to any reasonable person. Secondly, Mr. Perot, whether you appreciate his personality or not, is/was a successful person at what he did. Now whether he includes far-fetched conclusions with sound advice, I do not know (I doubt it). But he comes from a proven base of sense and application and you...well, you are nothing more than a Saltydog salivating on his success.

      • Posted By: Saltydog_0 @ 01/17/2008 3:18:41 PM

Ugh. How droll. LetsReason, apparently my colorful, sarcastic style of communicating has offended your sensibilities. Coming from one who decries America???s lack of creativity and the robotic qualities of the products emanating from our schools, I???m truly surprised by your lack of appreciation for metaphor or exaggeration. Perhaps you???re a ???creative realist???. You do seem to put a lot of stock in production, success (as you define it), stature, achievement and the ilk. Apparently your ideas of creativity are of the corporate variety. Fair enough; it takes all kinds.

You???re correct that I didn???t offer any ???insights??? in the literal sense. I did not cite specific instances where Mr. Perot???s statements demonstrated an embarrassing lack of understanding, cohesiveness of thought or relevance to today???s issues. I assumed that anybody reading my post had already read the article and could divine for themselves that Mr. Perot, past accomplishments aside, was quite out of touch with the realities of today???s political drama. Likewise, I did not bring attention to the glaring lack of detail provided regarding the subjects Mr. Perot discussed with the author. Typically, in a political opinion piece you???ll find an abundance of quotes and a detailed presentation of the subject???s viewpoints. There was no such fleshing out of Mr. Perot???s points of view in this article. In my opinion, what wasn???t told in this piece speaks much louder than what was.

In short, Mr. Perot said nothing in their phone conversation that was worth reporting, unless it was the author???s intent to report that: A) He had spoken to Mr. Perot and B) Mr. Perot demonstrated very little thoughtfulness and a great deal of ignorance during their conversation. Personally, I think it unprofessional for the author to essentially boast that he obtained an ???exclusive??? at the expense of Mr. Perot???s reputation.

Of course, I could have stated all of this in some form other than the allegory you found so distasteful, but like you, I have my own style.

At least you appreciated my spelling and grammar! Thank for noticing.

Saltydog, you are right. The poor guy probably needs help, and his caretaker should be fired, though I doubt he has one. Mr. Perot has money and means to get himself whatever help he needs, and in his own eyes, he was never wrong about anything. Glad to see that he DID accept truth abot Obama, but what planet was he living on that led him to believe the untruths? He has a taste for conspiracies, and therein lies the problem. In defence of Mr. Alter, this article deserved to be written because Mr. Perot still has his followers and lots of money, and a few clones with their own followers. We need to be reminded that 19% of the American electorate voted for someone who believed that their was some sort of conspiracy to disrupt his daughter's wedding. That is downright scary! There are still people who would vote for such a person and some peole those people would feel very comfortable voting for. I am no John McCain fan, politically, but he was a hero who gave much for his country, whatever else you may think of him.

      • Posted By: LetsReason @ 01/17/2008 2:00:08 PM

Having served in the military and seen the people America loves to call heroes, I often cringe when I see these posts. I do not admit to knowing John McCain, but I can attest to what I've seen as human nature. The majority of people I have experienced in the Army (enlisted) come from uneducated backgrounds who felt they had little hope of becoming a lot in life. They did not sign up to "serve". They signed up for a steady job and they whined and whimpered when the call came to actually serve and possibly off up their life. All over the place soldiers were filing paperwork and committing efforts to get out of "serving" and the Army just processes it and them and sent them anyway. These people act upon the survival instinct, find out they can make it and come back "heroes" because they "served".

John McCain was captured and suffered for five years (tis what I read). Salute for what he's been through as a human being. Did he "serve" and "suffer" FOR his country or was he like what I saw during my service and whined and fought to get out of it but was sent anyway. He survived the ordeal and now talks about it as a badge of honor at every chance he can get in order to promote his campaign. The fact that HE brings it up bothers me and builds veins of distrust. A true hero does not ask for your appreciation of what he may have done. He comes home and continues the good fight because it needs to be done.

Maybe McCain truly was a hero, but something suggests to me that he was not all that he (and others) have built him up to be. There are many untold stories of his time served???stories best told by observers...not the one literally sucking up the glory.

Can Jonathan call back Ross Perot and

    (1) get Ross Perot's comments on Dr. Ron Paul?

    (2) get advice for all those people who want to vote only for the candidates who are electable and end-up voting for the unworthy candidates.

  • Posted By: commonsenseparty @ 01/17/2008 3:16:31 PM

Unfortunately, Ross Perot is a bit of a nutcase. At his age and with his education and experience, why would he believe propaganda about Obama's religious affiliation and supposed refusal to say the Pledge of Allegiance? I expect that level of ignorance from Rush Limbaugh's dittoheads, but not from a successful businessman and former presidential candidate. Scary stuff.

I find it's best to enjoy the "reality show" aspect of the presidential campaigns -- the innuendos, overreactions to innocuous statements, covert media leaks, and other clever strategies the candidates and their campaign managers use to try to sway the masses (how does everyone like the "softer" side of Hillary?). It's great entertainment if you don't take it too seriously. One of my favorite jokes is: How do you know a politician is lying? He opens his mouth.

  • Posted By: oldschool @ 01/17/2008 3:16:24 PM

No one questioned Perot's peace time service. McCain spent more time in prison being tortured than Perot spent on active duty in the Navy at Sea. 5.5 years of torture....more than any of you having his character tried in the furnace of real character building

  • Posted By: oldschool @ 01/17/2008 3:12:38 PM

You folks need to study American History in detail about the immigrants who fought in place of the Union men who were like Bush's family. The Irish and German. How about all the immigrants who served as dometics, indentured servants, building the railroads, coal mines, factories, and company towns that enslaved their "employees". Irish Need Not Apply signs. Chinese Coolies building the railroads East and the Irish West .....doing the hard work and manual labor blue blooded Americans didn't want to and fighting their wars.
The aristocratic class in this country....speaking from on high.......immigration is a mess, but you neither know US History, are a racist, and a hypocrit and have some white washed view of Americana's Past

  • Posted By: homesickNEgirl @ 01/17/2008 2:17:37 PM

I for one would like to know, why Obama doesn't salute our American Flag or honor the National Anthem!

    • Posted By: or2ok @ 01/17/2008 3:12:03 PM

Are you nuts? Can you not recognize a doctored photo when you see one? That is so obviously "put together" so the easily led will follow like zombies - and you are. I prefer to gather information (not propaganda) and make my own decisions. No, I am not for Obama at this time - but I will make my own decision.
