Mr McCain is the only man for the job right now. He DOES have the integrity and backbone to strand up to idiots like Mr Perot. He can beat Hillary in the general as well. Dont believe all the hog wash about Mr McCains service record. He did the best he could in a difficult situation according to people in the know.

Who are these people "in the know?" I lost a family member in a POW camp in Vietnam, and have followed this issue for years. I believe that I am definately "in the know," and I believe that John McCain's "herioc" stature is a facade. Do some internet checking yourself. Then you can be "in the know," too, instead of dismissing these accusations as "hogwash."

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. As far as McCain, he was kept in a place with lots of other POWs and their story jives with his. Its sad to say but some things done on this earth will never be known.

        sorry for the heroic typo...

Oh, and Bill Clinton helped to bring America down so low in morals, did nothing against the terrorists the first time they tried to bomb down the world trade center (other than a slap on the hand), made a mockery of the white house by letting most of liberal hollywood do drugs in it, and he gave secrets away to the Chinese...something, that in our past history, would have landed him in the gallows for treason! WAKE UP AMERICA! Bill Clinton is one of our worst Presidents...he sold out our country!

Americans,We have such a great country. Our nation was built with people from so many walks of life .When the dust settled ,we were all americans. If we keep cutting eachother down then we will all be subject to evil that surrounds our great nation .I myself think we can fix what's wrong ,but fighting with eachother is not going to help anything or anybody...Stop and do what's best for america don't vote along party line "Vote for the best to lead the U.S.A.The best man or woman should be where our collective minds should be not the best party .The party should come after we did what's best for our country my name is Kirk Springer ... I'm for the U.S.A. not party lines where do you stand ! .

So a guy who can't even figure out how to Snope an email about Obama can be trusted to have the truth about McCain and the POWs? Good God!

    • Posted By: 1chloegirl @ 01/17/2008 5:14:45 PM

Unless you lost a family member in a POW camp in Vietnam like I did, you probably haven't done much research on this. MANY former POWS believe this about John McCain. Ross Perot may be eccentric, but he has spent a lot of time on this issue, and he is no dummy. Look it up for yourself, since your such an internet genious. There is a lot of information out there countering John McCain's "herioc" life.

    • Posted By: dewcooper @ 01/17/2008 10:26:11 AM

Everyone has their expertese. McCain can be an expert on being a prisoner of war, and Perot can be an expert on Vietnam and how they vets were treated. Read what Ross did during the War and since. And Obama has shown little respect for the Pledge...

      • Posted By: LetsReason @ 01/17/2008 2:52:40 PM

I rather like that McCain can be an expert on what it was like to be a prisoner of war during the Vietnam conflict and Perot can be an expert of how to pick yourself up by the bootstraps and do something with your life. From what I have read, McCain WAS a prisoner of war and Perot DID make something from nothing.

Concerning Obama and the pledge, I have not seen ANY credible evidence that he is lying about his beliefs and actions. The picture and e-mails that are abounding are CLEARLY part of a political scam whether created at the group or individual level.

That people continually reply to and accept the trash permeating the onslaught of e-mail suggests to me that as hard as teachers try, they are not successful at keeping idiots from getting through the educational system.

  • Posted By: kingsnail @ 01/17/2008 5:11:04 PM

The really terrifying thing is that someone like Ross Perot doesn't know that the "muslim" obama email is a racist hoax. That one email (which I have run across over and over again on the net) lets people express their own racial and religious fears with the cover of "well I just can't take that chance." I suspect we have not heard the last of it.

If Americans don't wake up we're all in for a world of hurt. If you can't tell each media outlet has it's own agenda. Just look at FOX network, then look at MSNBC and the debate, they didn't want to let go of the race issue. The media definitely blasts us in order to persuade. I personally don't know who to believe anymore. The People need to stand up and show Washington and all of their cronies (see network heads, lobbyist, Co. heads etc.) that we are not falling for their B>S>, and that we can vote and make a difference. we need someone who can heal this country. At this point anI thik we ought to have a forum and let Americans say who'd they like to see as President. I'd like to see a response from all on who you personally want to see run for Pres. or who you would vote for. , it doesn't ahve to be anyone currently running. Ju Let's see some response, it would be interesiting.

Ron Paul tells it like it is, but is being ignored by the spin masters of both parties. Fred Thompson knows what Ron says is true but lacks the strength and courage to initiate but would be an incredible supporting role member. Mitt Romney has the business leadership credentials and the marketing skills to gently sell the public on how and why it must be done. With Romney providing leadership and bringing together Thompson and Paul, they would form the nucleus of the best adminstration ever in my opinion. It is said that if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a duck. The same holds true here. If he looks like a president, acts like a president and walks the walk of a president, HE MUST BE A PRESIDENT. I would have no fears or concerns if Mr. Thompson were vice-president and ever called upon to lead in Mr. Romney's absence. With the advice and assistance of Mr. Paul's guidance in steering our nation as our inspired forefathers planned it, we have a realistic chance of turning the fortunes of the USA around. I believe that our Constitution and Bill of Rights were divinely inspired and is the most correct political document on this earth to guide how mankind should strive to live and how government should serve all of it's citizens.

The others, from both parties, are non entities and deserve little consideration other than as citizens in common.

It's just another ploy to get McCain out of the race and they are working real hard at it.
If you will notice moreso than with the other candidates. Mr. Parrot must have some
    benefit in it, right?

  • Posted By: Thomas Jefferson @ 01/17/2008 5:02:23 PM

Fact: Clinton will go down in History as being one of he best presidents.
Fact: Bush, jr. will be regarded as one of the worst.
Fact: Perot is a smart businessman with a compassionate side
Fact: Dr. Ron Paul can turn this wayward sinking ship around/VOTE for him and tell your friends to do the same

All of you out there need to do your own researching on John McCain,he doesn't care about P.O.W. s or anything else that our U.S. stands for so I'll say this IF he were to become our next President God help us!And I'll b moving to Mexico with my family.I live here in Tucson,Az. and my husband and I have written or called his office on numerous accounts with no answer or concern(most of which had to do with the VETS).So vote wisely ,do we really need another idiot trying to become our next President?GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Posted By: Genevon @ 01/17/2008 4:53:30 PM

Ron Paul has my vote as long as he doesn't drop out, like some of the other good candidates did. You hear me, Mr. Paul? Please stay in the running! I don't want to have to pick "the lesser of a multitude of evils" again! While I'm at it, I wish we could just end the two party system and have everyone stand on their OWN beliefs and values. There really is not any difference between the Democrats and Republicans anymore anyway. They are both leaving the Americans NO CHOICE for a REALLY GOOD candidate anymore!

Its hard to believe that in this country of ours we are so divided by such petty arguments. John McCain served his country to the best of his ability at the time as proven by those who served with him. What he and so many of our young men went through for our country, I can only imagine and thank God I did not suffer the same fate.
I believe Mr McCain to be the only man running who can take our country in the right direction at this time.

  • Posted By: RossPerot1 @ 01/17/2008 4:50:48 PM

I am in 100% agreement with Ross Perot. "Cocaine" has lied about many things regarding Vietnam. I believe Ross Perot had done his research in regards to the men that were left behind to die, and be used as guinea pigs. "Cocaine" uses his Vietnam tour as a crutch. I think that's bullshit!!! I am ex-military as well, but I don't use my military experience for anything, because it crap. All POW's need to be home. No EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!

What was his recommended list of books? Mr Perot, is right we need to get our house in order. We need to make tough choices to make our country fiancially strong. If most people could read how our country is run, they would fire everybody involved. no wonder this country is Trillions in debt. Our President needs a line item veto. We need to make a law or provision that you cannot attach a rider to bills being pushed by through which forces the President to veto the whole bill. Congress seems to be going in different directions. They present ,what is in it for me. We need to get rid of lobbist it breeds corruption and under the table dealings. The past and current President and Congress should be listening to the people of this country, they have stopped listening long ago, they appear to listen only if it is politically correct. An example is, VA fiasco and treatment of our returing troops. We need to have vision in 10-20 or more yrs in the future. We should be leading a renewable fuels push, solar energy is one. Gets us away from use of oil. The southern part of our country generally has> 200-300 days of sunny days. R.Smith San Antonio, military city, USA.

[Perot] "is still sharp in diagnosing what ails the United States. 'The situation in 1992 was not nearly as bad as it is now,' he says. 'If ever there was a time when it was necessary to put our house in order, it's now.

'It's like having cancer and being in denial. The conduct of the House and Senate is an embarrassment to the nation.'

You call this "analysis" sharp? Come on Alter, haven't you anything better to write about than this rambling nonsense from this charlatan. That giant sucking sound you hear is the whooshing sound from the vacuum in his brain. Good grief, Alter, go to work and stop taking crank calls.

    • Posted By: LetsReason @ 01/17/2008 4:23:34 PM

Yet you offer nothing in return except ad hominem attacks of a couple quotes. What is that? Do you actually feel better for simply calling his text names?

      • Posted By: hesstillafruitcake @ 01/17/2008 4:48:58 PM

Look Susie, the point of my comment was not "to offer" anything better, worse or in between, but to critique Jonathan Alter for having written this drivel of a piece. Alter's bit merely presents the rantings of a well understood -- and, by the way self-evident to any sentient being (Obama is not a Muslim -- well, duh) whack-job. I don't feel one way or t'other for having posted it other than hopefully offering Alter an observation on his having wasted his time on this guy. And, BTW, what is the meaning of "calling his text names"? Now, put the bong donw, I mean it.

OK, Susie, put down the bong and go back to class. You are too young or too stoned to remember 1992. And check your door locks -- them thar's a bunch o' them dang illegals comin' to git ya!

    Mr. jeffreylebowskijr ,

A number of media outlets have trace the Obama/Muslim rumor to the Clinton Campaign.

    To the rest of you,

I agree with Mr. Perot, Congress is where we need to make changes.

Section 8: The Congress shall have power

To lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common
defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform
    throughout the United States;

To borrow money on the credit of the United States...

Only Congress has the authority to tax us on the Federal level. Only Congress can determine how much of our money can be spent.

    I have studied the candidates.
    I have studied the issues.
I have paid attention to history.
    I have always voted.
I would, in the past, never have thought of saying the following.

Congress can start, again, from scratch. It did in the 1700's. Vote all of them out of office.

    Do it now, please.

Wow. It is so unbelievably disturbing how effective simply posting misinformation online can be. I really really feel terrible for those of you with comments below based on complete misinformation.

Let's put 1 thing to bed, shall we? OBAMA IS NOT A MUSLIM! I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT. HE WAS NOT SWORN IN WITH A KHORAN. HE DOES SAY THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

All of that, ALL of it, is web *** put out there by someone either ignorant or vindictive (or both). I PROMISE you.....none of that is true. oh...and he did NOT attend an overtly muslim medrassa. The school he attended in Jakarta was a mixed religion school. There is so much to sort through without being distracted by things that really aren't true. Go ahead and argue about whether or not he has the experience or judgment to be president, but for christ's sake, stop this nonsense!
