The British girl murdered obviously will never be heard from again. Why all this publicity for the killers ? A killer should be thrown in a deep dark hole to never be heard from again also, and their names should never be made public. Prehaps if this occures the attention seeking killers will seek to gain attention in ways not involving killing people. Don't even give a killer on death row in their last hour a chance to see a priest. After all they never let their victom see a preist prior to killing them. Society needs to bury these killers so they can't contaminate the public.

    what a big convoluted story!!!

  • Posted By: pyxzee26 @ 01/18/2008 4:27:20 PM

I think it's dishonesty and having no soul that causes people to lie, not "hard" drugs. Could we stop using such broad brushes to try and explain why this happened?

    • Posted By: Dave in NM @ 01/18/2008 5:01:59 PM

Ah, but can you be sure it's not the *lying* that causes the *dishonesty*...?

      /just sayin'

I find it interesting that whenever particularly gruesome or shocking crimes are comitted everyone wants to give broad societal exuses for why it happened. If they are Christians or conservatives they claim its family values or lack of religion, if they are librals its that we havn't done enough to educate them or that they didnt have proper constuctive outlets to participate in as teens.
The fact is, is that every murder case has its own reasons for happening, and has any number of societal influences that helped to contribute to the crime. Sometimes its drugs, sometimes its sexual devience, some of the time its love, but most of the time its money.
The truth is no single broad societal shift is going to stop people from killing eachother. I am not so sure anything we do will stop people from killing eachother. Killing others and other species Is inherent to our planet. All of "gods" creatures do it, Male bears will slaughter and eat there own cubs just so they can mate with the female again, chimps form raid parties and luanch assualts against other chimps, and lately have even been kidnapping and eating unattended human babies. What I am trying to say in a blathering and long winded fashion is that as long as there is life on this planet there will be others who take it for one reason or another.

    • Posted By: Dave in NM @ 01/18/2008 3:13:14 PM

You imply the reason might NOT be a lack of religion. You're obviously from San Francisco. Just ask "sayitlikeitis." (Sorry - "people" like that just crack me up.)

      • Posted By: Maizing @ 01/18/2008 4:53:18 PM

Actually, male bears will only kill the cubs of OTHER male bears... not their own offspring. Their goal is not just to "have sex" but to spread their personal genes to the next generation.

And despite my typing there at the bottom, I have learned alot in college (whoops).... just have a hard time typing when I can not see what it is I am typing. Sorry.

    • Posted By: hesstillafruitcake @ 01/18/2008 3:09:27 PM

Well, sarah jane, what enquiring minds REALLY want to know if did you, like the subject of this sotry, have some really hot bedroom activities while abroad?

      • Posted By: lrgok1 @ 01/18/2008 4:40:21 PM

like what she said had anything to do with "hot bedroom activities".... hesstillafruitcake, seems you're a bit of a fruitcake. weirdo!

Amanda Knox is the perfect example of the sociopathic youth that the Baby Boomer generation has brought up in to this world. The eschewing of religion and traditional family values that was cute and revolutionary throughout the 60's and 70's as Boomers came into their own has come home to roost in this sort of soulless hedonist. Look at any 20 year old today and they are interested in nothing more than sex and drugs with no concern for thier fellow man. I am sure she laughed while this poor girl died... The 60's youth culture may have been an experiment and a rebellion born out of frustration with the overly oppressive "Greatest Generation" but there was reason and struggle behind it...the lack of any struggle before the youths of today coupled with the permissiveness of their parents has robbed today's youth of their chance to be meaningful.

Amazing how we Americans are so certain we know exactly what happened, when the Italians, who know more than we do, don't have enough evidence to charge these two. We claim that our system holds us "innocent until proven guilty," but we appear willing to accept sporadic news reports as "proof." I've read all the same reports you have, and I don't pretend to know what happened that night.

I'm also disgusted by your suggestion that "eschewing religion" is behind this killing. The very worst people I've known have been, without exception, loudly religious, while the irreligious of my acquaintance have been, again without exception, the most honorable and honest, good-hearted people I've known. Please stick to what we know, and keep your baseless bigotry out of it.

      • Posted By: bduboftexas @ 01/18/2008 4:34:05 PM

It seems to me eschewing "religion" brings peace. And no, I'm not an atheist -- I'm a believer of God who sees radical fundamentalists of all religions hate in the name of God or Christ or Allah or Bob the Builder -- whatever. Great bumpersticker: "I'm pretty sure that when Jesus said to love your neighbor, he meant Don't BOMB them".

      • Posted By: sayitlikeitis @ 01/18/2008 2:06:00 PM

you must be from San Francisco - why don't you keep your atheist views out of this, huh?

        • Posted By: Dave in NM @ 01/18/2008 2:22:06 PM

Because I'm an American, wherever I'm from (check my username, genius), and my opinions are just as valid as anyone else's. Care to make a substantive comment, rather than just spewing more of that good-ol'-fashioned Christian hate?

    • Posted By: smadge @ 01/18/2008 3:43:06 PM

Hey breezly, good thing you're not on the investigation team or have any say in charging these kids. They wouldn't have a chance! Your comment is very generalized and stereotypical. You surely can't believe that all 20-year-olds are the way you describe. And to say that today's youths don't face any struggles? Are you kidding me?

    • Posted By: pyxzee26 @ 01/18/2008 12:13:22 PM

Your comment: "Look at any 20 year old today and they are interested in nothing more than sex and drugs with no concern for thier fellow man"

You've got to be kidding me. This kind of thinking is what got us Nazi Germany. BTW it's spelled "their."

      • Posted By: Dave in NM @ 01/18/2008 12:21:14 PM

I agree. I work with two 20-year-olds, and they're both hard-working, honest people trying to make their way in an increasingly difficult world. They may be the exception, they may not. Either way, the "any 20-year-old" generalization is just more groundless hatred, and won't help anyone.

Me? I'm 40, just to keep my own interests clear.

  • Posted By: tsanders @ 01/18/2008 10:24:28 AM

What a bunch of convoluted crap! Excuse me, but I've smoked plenty cannibus and I've always been able to recall what happened. It' seems quite convenient to blame pot for the holes in their testimony - bull. They knew exactly what they were doing and what really happened.

    • Posted By: bduboftexas @ 01/18/2008 4:31:34 PM

Did you see where they get a lesser sentence if they admit to being on drugs. Wow - that's convenient!

    • Posted By: sayitlikeitis @ 01/18/2008 2:07:34 PM

      absolutely!

    • Posted By: OaklandRaider @ 01/18/2008 1:53:08 PM

      couldnt agree more...

  • Posted By: Steve1976 @ 01/18/2008 4:17:23 PM

WHy should anyone give any credibility to diaries written by people who know everyone will read them, because they intend to release them? Ridiculous.

  • Posted By: zegeardotcom @ 01/18/2008 3:24:21 PM

These three are typical lying drug-users with bad memories. Its difficult to imagine that some people wish to make hard drugs legal. If they ever do, no one will be accountable for anything. Forget what's written in their journals because they know they will be read by people, go by the facts.

    • Posted By: Dave in NM @ 01/18/2008 3:56:37 PM

Exactly which "hard drugs" do you allege they were using? Or do you consider cannabis to be a "hard drug?"

All this story tells me is that the Italian investigators have no idea what happened to Kercher. If their only way to find out the truth now is to rely on journals written by suspects who know they are being watched, then this case is dead in the water.

    Way to go, investigators!

As a current college student who has spent time abroad and have met many students who have study abroad here in the US I am offended at your remarks of us and our generation. Yes I did drink and party when abroad but I also learned alot and from the whole experience would not change a thing. If I sat inside every night then I would not of met the locals and made strong ties with people from around the world. Same goes for those students who have studied heere. And we are very hard workers. We have to be to get any where now a day. Please do not make geralizations or ignorant remarks about students. It is the people are so closed minded that really scare me, not the youth.
