Comment: Fix the economy, focus on the problem, 10 more months of "broken Government" can we afford to wait til the world changes. I don't think we can, write your Congressman and ask him to send Bush to the Heague and strenghten the fight against Terrorism. When the World trusts our Country, again, our Dollar and Econmy will rebound. It's up to all of us to bring accountability to the White House. www.rcjorgensen2008.com

Comment: Besides the attack on Iraq being a Bush War with Cheney in control, I'd say that for a great part it was the notion of putting Israel ahead of our own country with manipulations by Wolfowitz, Perle, Libby, Hadley, Kristol and all the others who signed that first letter to Bill Clinton about attacking Iraq and deposing Saddam Hussein.

Can he really make you believe that he will leave no child behind again, How many times can one nation be foolded. Think about all the bankrupt people sitting at home, those in debt, those without healthcare, and unable to afford education watching his speech. HERE"S THE proof, keep in mind this is just the tip ot the ice berg

Cheney's stock options which were worth $241,498 a year ago, are now valued at more than $8 million-- for an increase of 3,281% . Cheney has pledged to give the proceeds to charity. Cheney continues to receive a deferred salary from the Halliburton. He was paid $205,298 in 2001; $162,392 in 2002; $178,437 in 2003; and $194,852 in 2004.

Halliburton, has already raked in more than $10 billion for work in Iraq, and was handed some of the first Katrina contracts. The company has been criticized by auditors for its handling of no-bid contacts in Iraq, and there have been numerous allegations of over charging for services. Auditors found the firm marked up meal prices for troops and inflated gas prices in a deal with a Kuwaiti supplier. The company also built the American prison at Guantanamo Bay. "It is unseemly for the Vice President to continue to benefit from this company at the same time his Administration funnels billions of dollars to it. Lautenberg???
They even "pimped" our troops. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Do you think Bush and Cheney care that we are spending billions in IRAQ, NO. THis is why they hated the CLINTONS. THE CLINTON"S ACTUALLY USED TAX payer money to help the middle class and all AMERICANS.

Comment: We have been fooled by our own government and there is no way any Republican is going to win this election. THE Middle class has had it with all this Bin LADEN terrorist crap. WE are now scared of our own government more than we are of the terrorist because the decisions this government is making on our behalf is not in our best interests and it is killing us. The government is now dominating our civil liberties. They are giving the states millions for Real ID Cards. This is just the start of government intrusion. Combine this with the misuse of the Patriot Act and the future Plans of insurance comPanies and corporations to have full access to our personal records and we have a real crisis.
Credit Card companies have already started selling and sharing our personal information with the private sector. We really have to wake up and protect our constitution it is all we have to defend ourselves against interests that become too rich and powerful in this country. The government keeps expanding and is being predominantly controlled by special interest and lobbyist. The middle class is being weakened and our civil liberties are being threatened. Real ID Cards will not make "us safer" infacat terrorists can obtain fake ones and move about freely. The American people did not vote on Real ID Cards, we need a vote. Our constitution would have to be ammended in order for Real ID's to become legal. I do not know what has happened in Washington but it is getting out of hand. They know what they are doing is unconstitutional so they are trying to bribe the states by offering them money. I hope every state agrees with me and Prevents the federal govenment from imPosing and unconstitutional law. If the states allow the government to do this then they would have set a bad Precedent that could lead to further government violations.

    Comment:
At the end of his article, Jacob Weisburg writes ???The more the son???s faults glared, the more his father???s reputation grew? Reputation for what? Apparently Weisburg has forgotten about Silverado Savings and Loan. Remember that was the savings and loan that his son Neil Bush mismanaged (thanks largely to the deregulation of the Reagan Administration.) To bail out his son, George Senior passed the bill on to the tax payer and every citizen in America got to fork over several thousand dollars of his or her hard earned money to bail out son Neil. Barbara, who said that the victims of New Orleans should be grateful for their mistreatment because they???re underprivileged, of course made a donation to the schools in New Orleans - provide they buy the educational materials produced by son Neil. And - let???s not forget the way son Jeb rigged the Florida election in 2000, so that his brother could seize power without a popular vote. In short, the entire Bush family has viewed America as their personal toy and the entire Bush family justly deserves to be cursed and reviled by Americans for the next 20 generations.

Comment: I must take serious issue with Mr. Weisburg's comment that "of the top-level players in the administration, only Paul Wolfowitz directly advocated military action against Iraq before September 11. " Many of the top members of the Bush administration personally advocated removal of Saddam Hussein from power in 1998. No less than eight individuals (Elliot Abrams, Richard Armitage, John Bolton, Richard Perle, Donald Rumsfeld, Robert Zoellick, Zalmay Khalilzad and Paul Wolfowitz) signed a public letter sent to President Clinton advocating military action. A quote from the letter: "In the near term, this means a willingness to undertake military action as diplomacy is clearly failing. In the long term, it means removing Saddam Hussein and his regime from power."

All were members of the group Project for a New American Century, and regime change in Iraq had long been one of their principal aims. I have always enjoyed Mr. Weisburg's articles at Slate Magazine, but I don't understand how he can make such a blanket statement which is clearly incorrect to start off his article.

Comment: The tradedy of the younger George Bush, our present president, is one of ignorance and extreme hubris which arose from his parents' neglect. If George H.W. had spent more time being a father and less time on his career his son would've developed a healthier, less insecure character. Another aspect of this is the royalism of American political culture. We elect our king from the line of succession w/o much question. This is very damaging as illustrated by the case of the Bush presidencies.

Comment: The Republicans have shown me the way. The next time I'm worried about my security, I will find a slightly retarded former Connecticut prepschool cheerleader that had his father pull strings to him into the Air National Guard so he could avoid combat in Vietnam. This is who I want protecting me. You're doing "more better" Dubya, don't let anyone "missunderestimate" you!

Comment: For "getupstandup": Funny you should mention the Chinese and Indians, as you are only half-correct. Our "lunch" is already being eaten as a direct result of the current administration's policies. We don't have to worry about military action- I believe that is what you are referring to- since they have already purchased the controlling interest in our government! Your king has sold us out to fund his retirement (hereby known as oil profits by diminishing the flow out of Iraq) with his subjects paying the price (some with their lives!). As for the kids- it seems the only ones suffering are the poor souls who can't understand the bleakness of their future is only as far as the next administration, regardless of party or affiliation. Things will begin to get better once the imperial presidency is returned to the people...

Comment: What we need now is another Clinton to run and hide when the going gets tough. Our enemies bombed America at will here and abroad during the Clinton years and all Slick Willie could do was lob a few harmless missles into Afghanistan and call for Monica. Don't worry, Dems, you'll get President Mommy. All violent attacks will be met with handwringing "negotiations." We will try not to offend anyone. We will become Europe. Everybody will love us again. Your drugged-up kids who are too fat, lazy, and ignorrant to learn anything but how to improve their self-esteem will have their lunch eaten by the Chinese and Indians (no, I don't mean Native Americans). And when the nation becomes New York City in the early 90s, you will again turn to a Republican to save your sorry butts. It won't be too late will it?

Everything has increased during the past 7 years except middle class wages. Like you, I am so proud Haliburton and Exxon-Mobile have been able to make record profits, with our help-no bid contracts and government subsidies. God Bless Haliburton and Exxon-Mobile.

Comment: It took more than 200 years to build this country into a world leader and only seven years to make it a laughingstock of the world; even third-world nations. For much of the past seven years, VP has been holding the steering and the accelarator with our leader in the back seat. Carl Rove used to be be the front-seat passenger. The world economies are suffering and so are the people as a result of misguided wars.

Comment: .What an appalling indictment of this sad excuse for a leader of men, a President of our poor Republic. The story appears to be done with some sympathy for the man if not the peoples he has destroyed, the nation that is in shambles, a world facing its greatest crisis with opposition rather than leadership from America.

It is equally appalling that so many GOP leaders have been equally poor enablers of this corruption. The failure of the news media, the rise of Fox propaganda outlets, the implementation of American Fascism have flowed from George, adding to the misery of America and the world. Of course the acceptance by George of the Zionist propaganda and his exuberant support of their illegal, immoral, and deadly practices both in their ???nation???, within the ???occupied??? territories, and especially their invasions of neighboring states by the Zionist Jews in Palestine have made a mockery of George???s grandiose schemes.

It is a shameful indictment of the peoples of America that such a shallow, ill-prepared, and incompetent man could be elected and reelected to be our leader. It continues to be an indictment of the once respectable Republican party that the current crop of aspirants are no better than George in more than one case are much worse!

Comment: This article makes Bush the fall guy but he had help. The time line of events does not square with other reports. The administration was interested in regime change in Iraq ten days into office in 2001 according to Paul O'Neill and the neo-cons that served as Bush advisors and filled important offices in his administration presented a position paper to the Israeli government in 1996. Israeli supporters played a greater role in our invasion of Iraq than we know..

Comment: I think the presidency of GWB will go down in history as a puzzlement, as much for his actions as for those of the American people. That he was elected one time was a fluke at best. But after what was clearly a mismanaged and manipulative agenda he was elected a second time is nothing less than a global embarassment. While the rest of the world could clearly see the lies and misrepresentaion, too many Americans could only see the mirage of powerful rhetoric inflated with hot air. We as a nation have no one to blame but ourselves.

Comment: Don't kid yourself - Bush the elder knows where all the bodies are buried, because he buried most of them. 50 years from now, when we are all dead and everything gets declassified, we will see that Nixon's former CIA director and Regean's vice president - and I can't think of a more damning resume - was running his own shadow government.

And if you want to understand what is wrong with Bush the Younger, it is called dry drunk syndrome - he has the same distorted and dysfunctional thought patterns as any drunk, just without the drink. (although if the tabloids are to be believed, he continues to drink). Read http://counterpunch.org/wormer1011.html, entitled "Addiction, Brain Damage and the President."

Between Bush's lack of treatment for his alcohol addiction, and Clinton's lack of treament for his sex addiction, we've had almost 16 straight years of untreated addicts in the white house.

Any wonder why our country is in such bad shape?
