Careful What You Wish For

Getting elected may be the easy part. A sluggish economy. An ailing health-care system. An immigration mess. The next president's got issues.

Comment: The US does not have an immigration problem. We have a law enforcement problem. The laws of America were set up by our citizens. The police should not be allowed to pick and choose which ones to enforce.

Our immigration laws do not need to be changed, they need only to be enforced. Why is that so hard for people to get?

Supply and demand economics is enticing Mexicans to break the law. Company's that hire them are not helping. But our government is to blame for the criminal mess were in.

Pretty soon, illegal immigrants will be a protected minority. Americans will be accused of "criminals bashing". Bring the troops home and set them up on the border. Then start sweeping the communitys. Criminals are criminals, dont clutter up the subject!

Comment: The hundreds of thousands of immigrants who came to this country with nothing more than a hope and a dream followed the rule of law to become citizens. To those who follow with the same dream I say "follow the rule of law to gain the rights you seek or stay home until you can". We owe you nothing! Should you decide to ignore or treat with contempt the laws of the United States concerning your immigration status, then don't be surprised when we treat you with the same contempt that you treat us.

Comment: I am curious what about legal immigrants? why expect anyone to stay within the law if they can break it and ultimately get the greatest prize of all American citizenship? At the end of the day, the law works and it must be enforced (allow illegals to apply for temporary work visa at their home country - then cross the border, American citizenship can be applied for at the person home of birth. Canada has been using temporary labor for years and does not have the same issues)
And Bush leaves a foreign policy that is "hopeful?" yes if you live in an alternative universe.

the grinning chimp will go into retirement with his wealth while the rest of us clean up after him, all because he wanted to different than Daddy.

Comment: I'd love to know where these pollsters keep getting these numbers showing a majority of people wanting any immigration bill that includes "a path to citizenship" ie: amnesty. Every site I go to, people I speak with, all say No amnesty, enforce the laws on the books, increase penalties for employers who hire them. and....BUILD THE FENCE!

Comment: Bush has turned the whole Middle East into a powder keg, lied to get us into Iraq, no WMD's, quagmire, subverted the law of the land with more than a thousand "signing statements", domestic spying, continues to do nothing about global warming, lowered us to the level of the terrorists by authorizing torture, pardons Scooter Libby for what else? lying, Abu Gharib, "fiscally conservative" runs up record deficit, Real ID, an economy that's been in the doldrums his whole presidency, ignores the will of the people and rules more like a king, first elected alcholic and drug user, after 7 years continues to blame Bill Clinton for an assortment of things, more things I could list, and lastly, a man installed into the presidency simply because the Supreme Court failed to do it's job. No I can't think of why so many people hate this man.

Comment: Despite the aggressive, highly publicized campaign against the Clintons in the 90's, they were never found guilty of any crimes. Bill had an affair with an over-aged intern - if that is a crime, then most of the men in our society would be in jail. The soap opera was a product of the republicans and not fact based, and obviously successful in causing society to question the morality of the Clintons. Again, they were cleared of all charges, but somehow we prefer the hooplah created by the media than the truth. And hooplah is exactly what Obama's campaign is all about. I find it distressing that we prefer a candidate who is evasive at best, and unproven, than one who has been tried and tested over many years, and has demonstrated her capacity by emerging strong. I'm not willing to take a chance on an unknown idealist. I wouldn't hire an idealist unproven talent to run my corporation and I certainly would not elect him to run my country

All manner of change is not acceptable. Change in and of itself is not necessarily good. I'm voting for the candidate with a proven track record of change in the areas that matter most to our country. If you prefer an idealist who spouts pie in the sky rhetoric, than go ahead and vote for Obama. I'm not willing to take that risk.

Comment: The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Run away, run away! Get off your knees. We are winning the war on terror. Bin Laden's pathetic acolytes are in shambles, afraid to raise their heads. We have a foothold in the Middle East to repel the interests of tyrannical oil-greedy nations who live nearby (read: China.) The greatest threat, Iran, is stumbling around literally dying from the cold because they can't get heating gas to their citizens even though they sit on some of the largest reserves in the world. But a U.S. recession is coming!--gnash, weep, fall prostrate to the earth! You fatsos have had it so good for so long you don't know what it feels like when the pendulum swings in the other direction. You point fingers and cry in your herbal tea. No complaints when your houses were appreciating in a straight line up. Well, welcome to the 70s, children. At least you're not paying marginal tax rates that gobble up most of your income. At least, for now.

Comment: I think the next president will face a "9-11" (can you believe it, can you believe it) before taking office and will be allowed to implement the "draft "in this ongoing weapons deal that parades as a war (on terror). This war (weapons deal parading as a war) is as predictable as a bad B movie script: once you understand that it is only a weapons deal. WAR ENDS WE WIN: only when: we pass a law that makes the minimum price of gasoline at the pumps: $1.75/gallon; billion dollar/million barrel per day ethanol stills will not be built without protection from OPEC monopoly pricing rusting out our new stills. use cellulose not corn: stupid
