What a weird rewriting of history from a bitter partisan hack. Now we have a president that isn't a moron, you seriously need to shut up. So the only thing that will unite the GOP is hatred of a person ? How telling.
What caused the unraveling of the Republican Party? The president's former speechwriter explains.
What a weird rewriting of history from a bitter partisan hack. Now we have a president that isn't a moron, you seriously need to shut up. So the only thing that will unite the GOP is hatred of a person ? How telling.
I really resonated with Colin Powell's comment that the Republican Party needs to stop shouting at everyone. The ultracon pundits and interest groups that have been the "base" of the Party have been made irrelevant by the voice of the people. The vicious willingness of the Party to stomp the moderate voices is the simple reason for the defeat in November and will be the reason for its continued failure to win elections. I have been a lifelong supporter of the Party, but at age 59 I am prepared to move to a more reasoned approach to our society and the world more generally. Mr. Obama did not win the election so much because the people were enamored with his platform, but because people like me were sickened by the meanness I find in the Republican Party. The American people spoke clearly: that's enough. Nineteenth century politics have no place in the 21st century. The pundits can rant all they want; the only people listening are the pathetic few who still live in that 19th century dreamworld. The election is over. The GOP may well be over too if it doesn't become a party of inclusion and respect rather than exclusion and contempt.
The real nub of the problem is shrinking middle class incomes. Republicans and many Republican leaning independents signed on to the party to better themselves. A rising tide that lifts all ships. After 2000 and 9/11, people thought it was the recession that was holding them back. But then as time went on and things did not get better or deteriorated, it became apparent that the middle class had been discarded.
Resentment against Iraq became more intense as people started saying ??? what are we doing spending all that money over there? Then we see CEOs and Wall Street strutting their hugh paychecks and we felt like fools. It is ironic that Wall Street made so much money under Bush as they mostly donate to Democrats.
Corporate types, hard core conservatives and religious conservatives will continue to vote Republican. The greatest loss when you look at it has come from plain old middle class Republicans, many who were brought up in Democrat households. It is clear to see how our wages have been undermined by offshoring, outsourcing and illegal immigration. Our healthcare cost have soared because of the ideological straight jacked that that Republican leaders wear that permits one of the most inefficient and costly health care system to continue.
Politics are intrestresting. I was brought up on talk radio. mostly Rush, and was very loyal to the Republican party when i came of voting age. I would get pumped up with anti Democratic comments and pumped up with pro Republican talking points. I voted for Bush in 04 thinking my Republican party would solve the issues of the day. Border security, tax cuts, privatize health care so my generation has a chance. and the all consuming war in Iraq. wanting to give it a chance to work. I am oh so dissapointed with my congressman and senators to take care of future America and they got caught in parisan politics and got distracted and became big spenders and let go of the very reason i voted for them. im just so dissapointed with the Republican congressman and Senate. Pres Bush didnt keep fighting for fiscal reform and where is the alternative energy? oh i could just cry for all my expectations that were not met. Why oh why. I've lost my passion for my GOP and have become what I call a "freedom voter" no loyalties to a party but to my country. And right now my country needs strong families and a goverment that will foster that. that requires more money for the working man and woman so they can spend more time at home. that requires a strong economy and military to protect. it requires sacrifice from americans that politicians need to sell to the populous. my seniors whom i love are sucking the life out of my tax dollars. i feel for there plight being in Geriatric care myself but more of the same is lunacy. please help. I see out national debt and want to cry. it has to be paid! lowering taxed helps stimulate the economy to produce more income thus more tax revenue right? then pay on the deficit. please. before it destroys us. we owe favors to all who buy those notes that support our debt. we sell our ability to make choices. a free country making it hard for itself to make choices that are free of favors. please help. please help. my children need you. i need you. Whether its Republican or Democrat ,show me you can priortize my tax money while reducing the defecit and keep me safe ill vote for you. put forth a convincing plan with specifics. i need specifics and ill vote for you. please restore my confidence in politicians. your not all bad but you have done very little of lasting consequence for good. i hope you feel ashamed and recommited to solve problems.
I like that. A "Freedom Party" member. Basically, an independent. I came from the other side having been a Democrat for my whole life. But very disillusioned about politics. Now an independent. I try to see what's best for the future, not just that election. Try it, folks. Remember that the future is where you'll be eventually.
Where is the critique on the Democrats? did they not hold the congress for the past two years?
Why are there NO viable third and 4th parties in this country? Even a Billionaire can not start one... the LAWS prevent it!!!!
WE LIVE IN AN OLIGARCHY! THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC! in places live Canada third parties do provide competition, renewal, and opportunity. In the USA is ossified
What makes you think Newsweek will ever print some of the critiques written by Democrats about the current Democratic leadership? Newsweek is in the tank for Obama....any reader can recognize that. Go to realclearpolitics.com there are plenty critiques of the Democrats there, they will never get published by newsweek though.
There are no laws that prevent the formation of a third party. There are quite a few parties in America, granted only two are major parties. There does not seem to be much support in a third party. There is not critique of the democrats because this was an article that was written by a Republican about the Republican party.
Republicans have lost the word honest.
What has the GOP in trouble are it's moderates; It's McCains.
US Democrats feel odd when the discrimination campaigns against Americans are not conducted from the Oval Office, and moderates don't like to be the reason Democrats feel upset!
The moderates would prefer to say "ok! wage your discrimination campaign and run your Americans Suck First campaign!" Rather than stand up to the discrimination campaigns and lies, hatred, and bitterness moderates will cave in to it. And... agree!
Rather than confront lies and liars with the facts, the moderate would rather agree and even apologize.
When good people do nothing a country, or political party, are in deep trouble!
The DNC has waged an Americans Suck First campaign of lies and hatred toward various Americans for decades and in all that time when the moderates in the GOP run things, the GOP loses! When people with conviction and keen nose for BS predominate, the GOP prevails!
The last President to wage the America Sucks First campaign from the oval office was Bill Clinton, and like most things he didn't do a very good job--but did keep the Liberals somewhat happy.
There are much more important things to do than keep liberals happy! 2010 and 2012 will be very bad years for moderates in the GOP. And lets not rule out a profound change in these months before November.
The America sucks first campaign is a figment of your imagination.
well that was odd
Ron Paul is the ONLY Real Republican Running for President. MANBC and all the dummiied down Main Stream Press is Ostracizing Ron Paul's message from the masses of dummied down Americans. MSNBC should put ROn Paul at the top of its new making list and it's rating wouold sky rocket!
- A REAL Ron Paul Repubican
Ron Paul is not running for president, sorry.
Ever Notice:
THOSE WHO PREACH TOLERANCE HAVE NONE FOR OPINIONS OTHER THAN THEIR OWN? they use social pressure to intimidate,
WHO WANTS TO BE TOLERATED ANYWAY? I"D RATHER BE LOVED!
How is tolerance intimidation? I think these words mean the opposite.
What trash, What utter garbage can be spread in the name of giving a hack the opportunity to speak. By what possible measure does he clamin that the tax cuts have worked for our ecoomy? What "compassionate conservative" action has this leader of the republican party IHe hever has been the President of the United States. He never was able to make that transition which adds to his failures). . WWhy give this moron the
Loathesome vile person. I suppose the following has had nothing to do the republican's downfall :
FOX News got talking points from the White House
Bush authorized rendition.
Bush authorized torture. Yes, that means waterboarding.
Bush authorized a war based on lies resulting in millions of innocent Iraqi and Afghani civilian deaths as well as an ethnic cleansing.
Thousands of our troops have been killed or seriously injured.
The US dollar is in the tank.
The housing/mortgage crisis has almost caused a depression.
How about the trampling of our Constitution with warrantless wiretapping?
Under Bush, oil companies are raking in record profits while Americans suffer.
The US attorney scandal.
A health care epidemic.
Monica Goodling
A standing ovation in Congress for David Vitter???s return.
Military TV Analysts/Generals scandal.
Larry Craig???s bathroom adventure.
(thanks John Amato)
Tom Delay
Vote rigging
and BTW "thought" the Democrats have had control of congress for two years but not enough votes to overcome the obstructionist republican liars.
If you didn't know that then you should stop believing their propaganda. If you did then you're just as vile as Gerson. Idiot.
"Though all Republicans share a belief in federalism and limited government..."
That's a lie, Gerson, because you clearly don't believe in those things and yet you claim to be a Republican.
If you believed in those things, you liar in your heart, why did you so strongly support the EXPANSION of US Federal Government size and power that occurred under Bush???s misrule?
Also, NCLB was not an achievement of Republicans, it was an "achievement" of the Ultra-Liberal Ted Kennedy and the Crypto-Liberal George W. Bush.
Where, I ask you, was the cry from the Republican Voting Base to suck even more blood from the veins of the American Taxpayer so the education system could become even more corrupted by the sick ethos of grade inflation?
There was no such cry, and the only reason you and your buddies in the Bush Administration did it was because, like all white liberals, you???re constantly racked by a neurotic feeling of racial guilt that can only be assuaged by stealing money from the taxpayers and throwing it at programs that pretend to help minorities.
In the 60???s, Gerson, your wicked-hearted kind were ripping off money from white people to funnel into the very welfare programs which SHREDDED the Black Family.
Now you rip off money from white people to expand federal state power over the American Education System.
The principle, and the irrational motives, are the same now as they were then, though your political party tag may have changed.
huge deficit and 935 lies by President Bush and key members of his staff leading up to the war
ISNT THAT ENOUGH???????????????
The Main Stream Press is ignoring the Ron Paul for President Message. He is the overwhelming Peoples Choice. I would really appreciate it if the main stream media, (MSNBC) would cover Everything Ron Paul does and says. He is the ONLY one who wants us to return to the constitution, the only REAL Republican;. The public is hungering and thursting for a return to the Traditional Reublican Values: Peace, Lower Taxes and jprotection of our Constitutional Rights and Balancing the Budget.
The passage of new photo ID laws in Indiana and other Republican-dominated states is merely a thinly disguised effort by Republicans to rig elections. The excuse for such laws, namely to protect against voter fraud and identity thefts, is as phony as a $ 3 dollar bill. Extensive studies, conducted by the non-partisan Brennan Center for Justice at NYA, proves conclusively that voter fraud is almost non-existent. The Republican strategy for rigging elections is perfectly clear.
The first step is to require photo ID laws keeping many poorer people from the polls.
If the poor opt for absentee ballots as a way to vote, election officials will simply throw the absentee ballots away. In addition, Republicans will use defective voting machines without paper trails. They will put the worst, most defective voting machines in precincts with a high Democratic registration.
The Republicans obviously cannot win elections fairly, so they must cheat. We must throw all Republicans out of office for one reason only. Our democracy is not safe as long as Republicans have power. If my allegations are false, then I dare the Republicans, including John McKain, to demand fair elections and the ending of discriminatory practices. I also dare the Republicans to demand that all elections be administered by non-partisan commissions rather than party apparatchiks.
The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out,
what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States, one of their own!!!!

Hay
"Tax rates have been dramatically reduced, leading to astounding economic growth." The man says economic growth. He means growth of the bubble economy! The bubble has just burst, if you did not notice! Wake up and smell the coffee...... Or are you too delusional to smell even that?
No, no, no! The Republican party is at it's zenith! Millions being funneled from entitlements for the poor the the richest Ameicans, an intractable war that will funnel MORE money from entitlements to the wealthy, the poor and needy having to enlist in the military only to be slaughtered for oil, bonuses and pay up for Wall Street as they write down billions that will be picked up by the taxpayer. No, Michael, the Republican party is realizing it's decades long dream of turning the U.S. into a feudal police state. You should be celebrating.
You are right on the money maats! Even more disconcerting is that his call to arms isn't to return to the "old priorities" or to engage in the conversation on the "new issues", but to hope for a "political recovery" through the "return" of "national security issues", read: another terrorist attack to support the seeds of fear sown all these many years, or by joining together against a common enemy. Hillary Clinton. So, more fear-mongering and hysterical Clinton-bashing to reunite the Repugs. Why do the Republicans hate America?
"The Republican coalition of the 1980s was built around a series of issues???reducing high marginal tax rates, reforming welfare, fighting crime. The success of this agenda has made it less compelling. Tax rates have been dramatically reduced, leading to astounding economic growth. Rates of violent and property crime have plummeted in the last decade. Welfare caseloads have fallen by 60 percent. "
The above quote is why the Republcans are losing it all. Mr. Gershon proves that Republicans STILL DON'T GET IT! We are witnessing the results of 25 years of Republcan financial policies now and I don't think "astounding growth" would be two words I'd use to characterize it. As far as welfare cases being down 60%, congratulations of taking from the weakest and poorest in the country and giving to, you guessed it, the wealthy!! Yes Mr. Gershon, corporate welfare and tax breaks to those of us who need it the least has far exceeded anything we ever shelled out to the poor. Instead of our money being funneled downward to the needy, now it's funneled up to the wealthiest in the largest transfer of wealth from the middle to the upper class that our nation has ever witnessed AND the people are onto you. Until you and others like you acknowledge the pain, suffering, economic hardship you've created for the middle class and death (Iraq) and destruction you're responsible for, the Republican party is destined for the trash heap of history where it belongs. You represent an archaic and outmoded way of thinking My that's about as relevant as relying of fossil fuels as the energy source of the future. Republicans have ALWAYS been on the wrong side of history and now is no different. Instead of rolling with the changes and adapting to reality Republicans try to create thier own and force everyone to adapt to them. Sorry dude, that dog won't hunt. My advice to you, don't adapt, keep writing things that 75% of the US population sees a BS because it will make the Republican demise that much quicker. Ciao!
