How My Party Lost Its Way

What a weird rewriting of history from a bitter partisan hack. Now we have a president that isn't a moron, you seriously need to shut up. So the only thing that will unite the GOP is hatred of a person ? How telling.

I really resonated with Colin Powell's comment that the Republican Party needs to stop shouting at everyone. The ultracon pundits and interest groups that have been the "base" of the Party have been made irrelevant by the voice of the people. The vicious willingness of the Party to stomp the moderate voices is the simple reason for the defeat in November and will be the reason for its continued failure to win elections. I have been a lifelong supporter of the Party, but at age 59 I am prepared to move to a more reasoned approach to our society and the world more generally. Mr. Obama did not win the election so much because the people were enamored with his platform, but because people like me were sickened by the meanness I find in the Republican Party. The American people spoke clearly: that's enough. Nineteenth century politics have no place in the 21st century. The pundits can rant all they want; the only people listening are the pathetic few who still live in that 19th century dreamworld. The election is over. The GOP may well be over too if it doesn't become a party of inclusion and respect rather than exclusion and contempt.

The real nub of the problem is shrinking middle class incomes. Republicans and many Republican leaning independents signed on to the party to better themselves. A rising tide that lifts all ships. After 2000 and 9/11, people thought it was the recession that was holding them back. But then as time went on and things did not get better or deteriorated, it became apparent that the middle class had been discarded.

Resentment against Iraq became more intense as people started saying ??? what are we doing spending all that money over there? Then we see CEOs and Wall Street strutting their hugh paychecks and we felt like fools. It is ironic that Wall Street made so much money under Bush as they mostly donate to Democrats.

Corporate types, hard core conservatives and religious conservatives will continue to vote Republican. The greatest loss when you look at it has come from plain old middle class Republicans, many who were brought up in Democrat households. It is clear to see how our wages have been undermined by offshoring, outsourcing and illegal immigration. Our healthcare cost have soared because of the ideological straight jacked that that Republican leaders wear that permits one of the most inefficient and costly health care system to continue.

Republicans have lost the word honest.

What trash, What utter garbage can be spread in the name of giving a hack the opportunity to speak. By what possible measure does he clamin that the tax cuts have worked for our ecoomy? What "compassionate conservative" action has this leader of the republican party IHe hever has been the President of the United States. The Main Stream Press is ignoring the Ron Paul for President Message. He is the overwhelming Peoples Choice. I would really appreciate it if the main stream media, (MSNBC) would cover Everything Ron Paul does and says. He is the ONLY one who wants us to return to the constitution, the only REAL Republican;. The public is hungering and thursting for a return to the Traditional Reublican Values: Peace, Lower Taxes and jprotection of our Constitutional Rights and Balancing the Budget.

The passage of new photo ID laws in Indiana and other Republican-dominated states is merely a thinly disguised effort by Republicans to rig elections. The excuse for such laws, namely to protect against voter fraud and identity thefts, is as phony as a $ 3 dollar bill. Extensive studies, conducted by the non-partisan Brennan Center for Justice at NYA, proves conclusively that voter fraud is almost non-existent. The Republican strategy for rigging elections is perfectly clear.

The first step is to require photo ID laws keeping many poorer people from the polls.
If the poor opt for absentee ballots as a way to vote, election officials will simply throw the absentee ballots away. In addition, Republicans will use defective voting machines without paper trails. They will put the worst, most defective voting machines in precincts with a high Democratic registration.

The Republicans obviously cannot win elections fairly, so they must cheat. We must throw all Republicans out of office for one reason only. Our democracy is not safe as long as Republicans have power. If my allegations are false, then I dare the Republicans, including John McKain, to demand fair elections and the ending of discriminatory practices. I also dare the Republicans to demand that all elections be administered by non-partisan commissions rather than party apparatchiks.

We are witnessing the results of 25 years of Republcan financial policies now and I don't think "astounding growth" would be two words I'd use to characterize it. As far as welfare cases being down 60%, congratulations of taking from the weakest and poorest in the country and giving to, you guessed it, the wealthy!! Yes Mr. Gershon, corporate welfare and tax breaks to those of us who need it the least has far exceeded anything we ever shelled out to the poor. Instead of our money being funneled downward to the needy, now it's funneled up to the wealthiest in the largest transfer of wealth from the middle to the upper class that our nation has ever witnessed AND the people are onto you. Until you and others like you acknowledge the pain, suffering, economic hardship you've created for the middle class and death (Iraq) and destruction you're responsible for, the Republican party is destined for the trash heap of history where it belongs.
