The troubling thing is, either Bill's nasty and intemperate attacks on Obama were done at Hillary's behest, or they weren't. And if they weren't, it raises the issue of what kind of loose cannon Bill Clinton would be in the second Clinton presidency. If Hillary can't control what Bill says and does in public now, chances are she won't be able to do it then, either. And that's leaving aside the issue of Bill's uncontrollable *private* (but ultimately, inevitably public) behavior, an issue that nobody is even hinting at in the media at the moment but that many former Clinton Democrats like me can't help worrying about. Humiliating Hillary as First Lady was one (terrible) thing; doing it as President is something else again. I just dread it happening again.

Exactly! What % of the Clinton years was spent on distractions caused by the Clintons' picadillos, from travelgate, fostergate, Lincoln bedroom and desk stories, PERJURY, the pardons, monica-gate, whitewater, parsing "is", defining 'sex", and these are just the first that come to mind. See the GOP salivating to go back to the "good old days"? And an HRC ticket will turn them out in droves, hurting any one else on the dem. ticket....

Martin Luther King, Jr., talked about his dream of living in a nation where people will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Barack Obama ran and won in the Iowa caucus by promising to unite "red" states and "blue" states in a common national cause.

Then he was ambushed by the Clintons, who knowing there are more white voters than black voters in the country, sought to define Obama as the "black" candidate.

( As Newsweek is reporting, Sen. Ted Kennedy has correctly accused Bill Clinton of injecting race into the campaign.)

Frankly, it makes me sick to my stomach that race is being used--in 2008!--in a Democratic contest. And now the Clintons will parade in front of black churches on MLK Day, claiming that is was all one big misunderstanding.

We know what the meaning of "is" is. And this "is" wrong!!!

Agreed! The Clintons "play the race card"... I don;t think they do it because they are racist, but they would play ANY card to win, no matter at what cost. Wake up, party leaders and thinking voters - for the Clintons, it's always about THEM, We do deserve better than letting them drag the party and all of us down...

Thanks to Bill, not only will I NOT vote for Hillary in the primary, I made the gut-wrenching decision this weekend not to vote for her if she becomes the candidate. Nice work, Bill. Though no surprise to see you behaving in such a dishonest way, and completely lacking in style and class. I can't bear the thought of four more years of the Clintons in the White House. We'll survive four years of a Republican, look at what we've survived already......

    • Posted By: maskddingo @ 01/21/2008 11:34:54 AM

You are absolutely correct.... Life long democrat here... NO WAY i repeat, NO WAY! I will vote for Hillary. This is an election where the democratic candidate SHOULD be able to run away with a victory after 8 horrible years of the worst president in American history.... Nominating Hillary actually gives the republicans not only a chance, but a GREAT shot of winning. McCain against Hillary won't even be close... McCain in a landslide.....

      • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 6:16:00 PM

I agree! Why are there no polls out that show the super-Tuesday voters this - HRC's "electability" is still out there as a main reason why people support her. The number of dems that will no longer vote for her is growing daily, independents flock to McCain, and only the GOP will turn out in DROVES in November, as she is "fatal" (see Mccaskill's statement) for the down ticket, thus harming senate and house races, esp., in the red-turning-purple states... This leaves us with a weakened congress, and even a possible loss in November. Back to the thread of this discussion: WHERE ARE THE PARTY LEADERS? They see where this train wreck is headed. This is a roll of the dice we cannot afford!

What can one expect from an entitled, narcissistic person with no boundaries? And with Mark Penn as chief strategist to boot. I think we are just seeing the beginning of "Billy's Tantrum Tour!"

Democrats should gun to be the anti-Reagan. Establish a 60% majority and sweep through elections for the next quarter century. You guys need to stop quivering in fear.

Despite the aggressive, highly publicized campaign against the Clintons in the 90's, they were never found guilty of any crimes. Bill had an affair with an over-aged intern - if that is a crime, then most of the men in our society would be in jail. The soap opera was a product of the republicans and not fact based, and obviously successful in causing society to question the morality of the Clintons. Again, they were cleared of all charges, but somehow we prefer the hooplah created by the media than the truth. And hooplah is exactly what Obama's campaign is all about. I find it distressing that we prefer a candidate who is evasive at best, and unproven, than one who has been tried and tested over many years, and has demonstrated her capacity by emerging strong. I'm not willing to take a chance on an unknown idealist. I wouldn't hire an idealist unproven talent to run my corporation and I certainly would not elect him to run my country

All manner of change is not acceptable. Change in and of itself is not necessarily good. I'm voting for the candidate with a proven track record of change in the areas that matter most to our country. If you prefer an idealist who spouts pie in the sky rhetoric, than go ahead and vote for Obama.

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 5:04:36 PM

here's a "proven track record": Sen. Clinton voted to authorize WAR without reading the 94 pages NIE, knowing full well that no one on her staff had clearance to do so. I bet she did read the polls that day!

  • Posted By: aj181 @ 01/21/2008 2:13:48 PM

It's funny how no one talks about Bill Clinton being impeached. It's a big secret. If many people knew that, Hillary wouldn't stand a chance.

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/21/2008 2:53:50 PM

No one does talk about it, since, unlike the Clintons, O or his surrogates are above this... But sometimes I wish someone would, as the past is indeed an indicator of future performance in this case. Bill WS indicted, he was convicted of perjury (as commander is chief - for the same offence, the US air force has fired fighter pilots in which many millions were invested!), he was disbarred and unable to practice law. As Mr. Geffens said: most politicians lie, but it's troubling just how easily the Clintons do it. Can anyone really forget Bill looking straight in the camera and proclaim "not to have had sex with that woman'?!

      • Posted By: HigherMinds @ 01/21/2008 11:09:54 PM

I wonder how many people lie when confronted with personal questions about their marital fidelity? I also wonder why it was anyone's business but the Clintons....

        • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 4:55:03 PM

Good point, but PERJURY (he could have refused to lie and take a slap on the wrist for contempt of court)! The Commander in Chief did what the Airforce fires fighter pilots for, after the country has invested millions in their training.... And what about the pardons? What about travelgate? these were not mere "marital indiscretions", which are indeed none of our business, in my opinion. But hitting on an employee? Again, Bill could have been with Sharon Stone, for all I care, but this is what would get any top executive fired. Look what happened with the head of the Red Cross... and think abou the % of the Clinton area that was spent on distractions like Lincoln bedroom and desk stories, Foster-gate, plus flat-out "distorting' the truth whenever it suits him, on any subject. Like "I was against this war from the beginning".... Give us a break - no more drama! I'd love my children to grow up under a president they can look up to, without us having to explaing what "is" or 'sex" is, or compartmentalization, triangulation, etc etc etc.....

Seeking Truth: I will give you some truth. It is not the job of the government to give wealth to anyone. Get a brain. ... if you had one, you would still be a republican.

  • Posted By: phyllisstoffman @ 01/22/2008 3:41:56 PM

iam a strong Obama support -- adn another Democrat who will not for a Clinto again. I will vote for McCain who will be a much better and respected presidietn than Clinton --- I will also not vite for her again for US senator in NY -- she got my vote twice -- nto again.
I think referring to her as a former first lady runnign for President --as the mayor of Atlanta did yesterday -- is much morfe accurate than the first woman viable candidte for pres.

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 4:10:57 PM

Do read the text of the endorsement of "The State" of Sen. Obama, and why the Clintons cannot unify any party but the GOP!

  • Posted By: phyllisstoffman @ 01/22/2008 3:39:18 PM

I agree --I am another Democrat who voted twice for Bill adn Twice for Hillary in New York. But I am a strong Obama supporter and wil nto f votge for Hclkintonnnn

  • Posted By: Calicojeb @ 01/21/2008 3:45:32 PM

If Obama is fortunate enough to win the nomination of the Democratic party, who will he be calling up to ask for mercy, or to complain to when the Republicans start their assault, George Bush?
Rest assured, he ain't seen nothing at this stage, this is playing footsie.
Get real Obama, real politics is a contact sport, aka hardball.
You are not running unopposed here like you practically did in IL

Can't stand the heat? Get out of the kitchen.

    HILLARY 08

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 3:10:51 PM

Another Clinton supporter, claiming that this is just "dirty politics as ususal"... This is exactly why we are so divided now, and it's getting worse. Indeed, their campaign is, and that;s exactly why the only party she can unite is the GOP. It is NOT about them! We deserve better! The party elders can see how damaging this is - leave it to the dems to blow it, at a time when the tide is for the dems! SPEAK UP, if you want to call yourself party "leaders"!

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 01/21/2008 10:44:29 PM

I am shocked by the sensitivity of all the DEMs. You would not be having this problem if you were not trying so hard to be European. This is the United States, and we are discussing a race involving a man of Islamic heritage. IDIOTS!!! What is wrong with the mindset of your party.

      • Posted By: chatmant @ 01/21/2008 11:13:03 PM

Kind of hard not to sould like a European when we start talking about democracry and republics (European words, European ideas) in English, the language of England (a European country). What did you expect? What's ridiculous is when your ilk acts like you're not, which is just to say 'I'm to stupid to realize what I am'. (E.g., your white supremacy's European, too!----Damn you, Europe!!!!)

      • Posted By: chatmant @ 01/21/2008 11:06:24 PM

Hey, HR, you're late for your clan meeting. (Pssst: this isn't the 20s anymore. The white supremacy stuff isn't so attractive anymore!)

    • Posted By: chatmant @ 01/21/2008 10:59:54 PM

Actually it's neither footsie nor baseball nor hardball. It's making up clever nonesense and pouring mental sewage onto the public airwaves. The smell creates a certain nauseating effect. Certain over-the-counter products may be effective.

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/21/2008 3:49:55 PM

Hillary should show she can stand on her own feet, and tell her husband to take his meds. if she can't do it alone, she should not be running for president!

      • Posted By: Alex216 @ 01/21/2008 5:10:30 PM

Hmmmmm. She did say, when she started her run, that she is "capable" and "will not have him with [her] during her campaign." This is a quote the media doesn't care to resurface.

  • Posted By: Kirko @ 01/21/2008 5:08:50 PM

Bill Clinton is not wrong by saying Obama has not always been against the war. In July 2004, Obama said that he did not know how he would have voted on authorization of the war. He also said in July 2004 that there was not much difference between his position on Iraq and George Bush's. Those two statements were addressed on Meet the Press on Nov. 11, 2007. Based on those statements, Clinton is not wrong saying that Obama has not always been against the war. Obama could not have always been against the war if he was undecided on the authorization vote, as he said he was, in July 2004. And how could he be against the war if his position was the same as George Bush.'s Obama's positions are inconsistent.

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 3:00:23 PM

Would any one please point out The Clintons' position on the war: HRC voted for it WITHOUT READING THE 94-PAGE NIE (knowing no one on her staff had access to this classified document). Obama came out against the war, and stated - correctly - that he did not have access to the supporting materials. Where is Senator Graham - Please, speak up - you fought so hard to give these senators access before voting (94 pages should not have taken this 'certified genius" (Bill's words) too long. I BET she did read the polls, and a pro-war vote was more popular that day....

    • Posted By: chatmant @ 01/21/2008 10:58:02 PM

But who cares about truth!!! We'll f-ing ingnore the reality, which is (paraphrase) "I'm not saying Kerry's psycho for voting like he did. I wasn't hanging in the senate with his classified info," but (quote) ""What I know is that from my vantage point the case was not made." Yeah, that's a guy who's just making up random stuff as he goes, or (which is more likely) you're a liar or have been duped by liars. Obama takes one for the Democratic team, and the Republicans--er, I mean the Clintons--blast him for it.

    • Posted By: vster@cliffhanger.com @ 01/21/2008 6:31:52 PM

That is completely inaccurate. He has already addressed comments made related to Kerry/Edwards. And anything said or done once the war starts has no bearing on someone's initial position. Leaders must deal with the present circumstances. Once the war starts you can no longer be for or against it...it is too late. For instance, supporting the troops today does not alter the fact someone was against the war originally.

    • Posted By: vster@cliffhanger.com @ 01/21/2008 6:27:17 PM

That is completely inaccurate. He has already addressed making comments to protect Kerry/Edwards. And anything said after the war starts has no bearing on someone's position before the war. Once the war starts, you can no longer be for the war or against the war, leaders must live in the present. For instance, supporting the troops now does not diminish the fact someone was adamantly against the war before it started.

  • Posted By: jcfinsf @ 01/21/2008 6:26:06 PM

HRC can NOT win in November. Period. What is more important than that fact? Nothing.

Take a look at all of the polling out there. Ask yourself how she's supposed to turn around the half of the country that has been hating her for some 15 years? It's crazy she has gotten this far. It seems the Dems have found yet another way to lose a general election: let the machine and an ego-driven, ex-President persuade us that we need a Clinton dynasty to match the Bush one.

Get ready for the McCain administration, folks. 1,000 years in Iraq just around the corner!

And Cindy McCain versus Chelsea Clinton in 2016. Yippee!

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 2:51:03 PM

I agree! Daily, the numbers of dems. who will never vote for a Clinton again is growing, and the independents are flocking to McCain. (I don;t think we need to look HRC's support in the GOP). As Rove tols us, and as the party leaders well know, there is NO WIN without the independents, esp. if you can;t turn all your own people out. This really is about US, not about the Clintons, and that's why any body in the Dem party that is in a postition to speak up should do it LOUDLY, and IMMEDIATELY, before Super Tuesday is a done deal. Where are the polls tracking HRC's absolute negatives? As a lifelong dem., I never thought I'd find myself in this position, but I pledge never to vote for a Clinton again....

  • Posted By: auggie2 @ 01/22/2008 2:19:39 PM

There are alot of things I don't like about Hill, but the worst of them can't come near the distain I have for Bush/Chaney. Bill got a BJ; Bush/Chaney f***** the nation, the Constitution, the enviroment, jusitice, and the people of Iraq. The BEST thing about Hillis she has the vindictiveness (I hope) to continue investigations and prosecutions against the criminals now in the executive wing. And please don't give me that, "Let it all end" bs. A deterent has to be created. DO you think all this, or Iran-Contra would have happeded if Ford hadn't pardoned Nixon and let the Dick sit in a jail cell for a few years? Besides, do you think the Rightwing is going to "play nice" if Hillary wins?

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 2:29:26 PM

Where will all this increased rhetoric get us? Probably a win for the GOP in November. The % of dems that will never vote for HRC is increasing by the day, and the independents are running to McCain. This issue is that the elected officials in the party seem unable and unwillilng to make sure this scorched-earth is not damaging the party to a point that will hurt us all, not just Sen. Obama. SPEAK UP, dem. party leaders! Again, Roves smiles!

  • Posted By: auggie2 @ 01/22/2008 2:29:18 PM

There are a lot of reasons why I don't like Hillary, but the strongest of them is nothing compared to the distain I have for Bush/Chaney for what they've done to this nation, the Constitution, the enviroment, the economy, the DoJ, and the people of Iraq. The BEST attribute Hillary has is that (I hope) she is vindictive enough to continue investigations and prosecutions of the Bush/Chaney criminals. This would benefit everyone, including Clinton haters. If a president is set to hunt down ex-prez for their criminal activity while in office, it would reign in a lot of this crap. Do you think we'd have had Iran-Contra, BJ-gate, and the whole B/C fiasco if Ford had NOT pardoned Nixon and The Dick had spent a few of his remaining years behind bars? I'm willing to find out. (and please spar me your, "Let's just let it end and play nice" bs. Do you think the rightwing is going to disappear if a Democrat wins in Nov.?)

  • Posted By: BoGilles @ 01/22/2008 1:47:54 PM

Bill can't hurt her or help her.
This country is not ready for a woman President, especially Hillary who cares only about herself and political future. We have seen crocodile tears before, but a few people got caught with the well planned act. Have no fear, Hillary wont lead.

  • Posted By: brock @ 01/22/2008 9:59:32 AM

As much as I believed in the Clintons at the beginning, they have lost me purely on the choice of campaign that Hillary has chosen to allow to stand for her. Previous to declaring her intentions to run, she was a different person on the issues that she appears to be now. It's like she's been channeling her husband too much, even after she "found her voice". Didn't she have a "voice" this whole time in the Senate?!

    • Posted By: pmcs @ 01/22/2008 1:35:34 PM

Re:"even after she "found her voice". "

Hillary's voice through Bill's mouth? Folks, impeach Hillbilly Hillabill Billary -- where is Ken Starr when we need him ? Now Starr can help Democrats with this.

  • Posted By: Swift2001 @ 01/22/2008 11:04:36 AM

Here's the thing. Who is Bill embarrassing? You, Jonathan? Why? Because he criticizes somebody in a political race? Oh, my heart's a-flutter. When will Democrats, including slimy little quislings like Rahm Emmanuel -- he's from Chicago, isn't he? what other politician is from Chicago? Oh. -- stop snitching on other party members to the press. Ted, Rahm, if you don't like what the Clintons are doing, be men: call them on the phone. Don't embarrass the party by snitching to Jonny Alter. Why is it that Democrats always do this coward's maneuver?

    • Posted By: Carthage @ 01/22/2008 12:25:31 PM

Bill is an embarrasment to himself, and to all of us. If his wife cannot stand on her own feet, she has no place in this race. This power-hungry couple will do ANYTHING to win this primary, but it may just cost the party the election in November, AS a life-long dem. voter, I never thought I'd find myself in this position, but I pledge to never vote for a Clinton again. Party elders, look at the numbers!

      • Posted By: pmcs @ 01/22/2008 1:28:22 PM

As some Repulicans who voted for George W., after voting for Daddy Bush, will REGRET big time for having done so in the last election, all of us Dems will REGRET big time IF we ever elect Hillary.

Bill and Hillary will be both Presidents. America with TWO sitting Presidents! I abhored the name Bush on Ballot. I abohor the name Clinton on my Ballot.

For the first time in my life, I will vote for Clinton's opponent in ALL elections. I am a New Yorker BTW.

      • Posted By: paulte @ 01/22/2008 1:16:14 PM

Glad to hear this! I hope a lot of other Dems out there have the same view! Go Obama, go!
