Your an idot. A man lost his life. A little girl lost her father. Do you have any idea what that means? Or how painful it is to lose someon you love? Your and opinionated jackass. Get over yourself.
His death was of his own doing-as far as I'm concerned that's stupid. He wasn't thinking of the consequences to his little girl, was he? He wasn't thinking how painful it would be to others, was he? That's my opinion. And by the way, learn how to use a dictionary. It might make you seem smarter.
I have no idea who this person is. Never saw any of his movies. And probably never will. Be it suicide or overdose, they say God has a funny way of eliminating stupid people.
Justmethinking, apparently my point about the delicious irony of your comment went way way over your head. The fact that gays make you sick and nauseous (which is pretty unusual in most homophobes) tells me that something pretty deep is obviously going on with your sexual identity. But we bloggers are not here to help you through your problems or to participate in your childish tantrums. So have fun posting a curious number of angry responses to every posting in here ( a really powerful and controlling nausea apparently), while we adults duscuss things in an adult manner. Now I'll ignore you so you can rant in peace.
The angry, bigoted ant-gay comments by Justmething (who of course is not a homophobe since he has no probelem with gays except for the little minor detail that they make him feel nauseous) are certainly disgusting but they ironically are strangely fitting in commentary about Ledger. His greatest role, and the one which will live the longest, is his role in Brokeback, where he plays a troubled closeted gay cowboy who feels unable to fully express his love because of the hatred of people like Justmethinking. Thank you Justmethinking for helping put Ledger's life and greatest role in such perfect ironic context.
I am not angry, just speaking my truth, as much as it pains you that others may not share your views and or opinions. Homophobe means 'Fear' of Sameness, in other words fear of that which is like you. Since that is inaccurate , I simply pointed out that I do not 'fear' homosexuals, I am nauseated by their behaviour. Do you eat blood pudding? It is an European dish that many love, but would certainly nauseate me if placed in front of me. I care not whether you partake of it, nor whether homosexuals exhibit their behavior with each other. What nauseates me about it is the disregard of societal mores when demonstrating the behaviour. The same would go for hetero's who demonstrate rude behavior in disregard of the same societal mores.
Was that really his greatest role? Wow, how sad that is a movie that most people didn't even see.
It will live the longest??? No, sorry. Since he died just prior to his last role coming out, Joker, in Batman, most will remember him for that one. People have a tendency to remember either the things that are most important to them, or the last thing that they see. Homosexuals will remember him for Brokeback, since it strikes a chord with them, the general population will remember him for Joker. Likely you will think that makes the general population shallow or non-feeling for homosexual issues, and in that case you are probably right. People gravitate towards what they are like, not the way they are not like. I know the running joke around here about Brokeback, was that the only way any man went to to see it was if he were gay, or it was his wifes turn to pick the movie. And the wives picked it to see their husbands squirm and feel uncomfortable...
Of course, I do think that generally, Ang Lee is a pretty good director.

Accident or suicide, I think its sad either way.
Accident: yes very sad. Suicide: sad that someone chooses to answer their problems that way. Personally, I hope it was an accident, for the sake of those he left behind. Especially his children.
and in this forum, such opinions do not have to be tolerated
LOL, I have to tolerate yours and other views, but you don't have to tolerate me!!! rotflmao!!!!! The supposed tolerant not being tolerant... stop!!! You are cracking me up!!!
Free speech has been excercized. However, in a news forum about the sudden and tragic death of a young actor, using opinions that contain slurs and offensive comments are not appropriate, relevant, or tasteful.
Yes, it has. You may consider what I said slurs and offensive, but that just means you are intolerant of my views. As far as tasteful goes, well we are talking about Hollywood here. Not much tasteful comes out of there either, so one might say I am simply reflecting my environment.
If you're not a homophobe, why bother with the comments? You do get that he was an actor, right? These were all roles and he was just doing the same as most of us - doing your best in a job. If you didn't care for his work, fine, but don't judge it - you're obviously no expert.
Because I can. Why should I have to be a homophobe to comment? Are you admitting that his acting had a distinct homosexual flair?
I agree, I am sure he was doing his best.
I am allowed to judge his work if I desire. Part of that is done by everyone, simply with the decision to purchase a ticket or not. Do 'you' judge in that manner? I bet you do. It is my choice, just as it is yours to dispute me if you desire. You have no idea if I am an expert or not, but think whatever you desire. I would like to point out that a person can get a Bachelors Degree in less time that most people spend in the movies in their lives, and that degree supposedly makes them an expert. So it is likely that many people are much more expert in whether an actor or actress is good than maybe you like or care to admit. Not that those are my qualifications, I just like to point out obvious things occassionally. I don't even know if 'you' are an expert in these things. Perhaps you think/know you are...?
I do have a rudimentary system for determining the prospects or value of a particular movie and thereby, the workers in that movie. I wait for the 'experts' to give their opinions. If they say it is good, then I avoid it. If they say it is bad, then I might check it out. I have discovered that the 'experts' in the movie industry are usually wrong. That, too, is my opinion, but just like other things, we all have one, don't we?
If you read 'all' of my post, you would see that I already agreed it was sad. This is the forum I chose to express my nausea because this is the article that stated the he avoided the pretty boy path, which was untrue. Why would I express the untruth of that in another location? That would be off topic.
Sorry you don't want me to have the same freedom of speech you appear to enjoy. I determine whether my comments are appropriate, relevant, and tasteful, or not. That is the way individuality works. That is the way freedom of speech works.
Please be tolerant of my opinion.
Or whatever...
Justmethinking....
While you are correct that you have the appropriate freedom of speech to say what you think, you also must keep in mind that by making your comments available and out in the open, you are setting yourself up for criticism and dissent. That, too, is called freedom of speech. Just as you criticize Heath's choices, so too are your comments open to criticism.
Your opinion is your own, and you're entitled to it. But you certainly aren't entitled to go unchallenged. But you knew that.
Absolutely! I did know it, thank you! Criticism welcome and warranted I am sure.
I am so very sorry to hear of Heath Ledger's death. This is a sad moment for Hollywood and for the world. I am not quite sure why someone so popular and with so much going for him would take his own life, if that is indeed what happened, but it is sad, unfortunate, and a great loss of talent and treasure for everyone. He is in my prayers, and my cares, and I am thinking of him today and feeling a great, great sorrow that he was not saved. Thank you for allowing my opinion.......skd500
Even though I have never seen any of his movies, I am saddened to read about Heath Ledger???s death. I have to wonder though, did playing the Joker end up contributing to his death? He seemed to be a man that took his characters very seriously and as a Batman fan, I know that Joker is a very disturbed villain. I read that he had to take sleeping pills at the time he was playing as the Joker. Anyways, I look forward to his performance in the up coming Batman movie and may his soul find peace.
It is what it is. We are the great debators, if we weren't we wouldn't be on here giving our opinions on this stuff and getting ready to jump down people's throats about their's. At the end of the day Newsweeks discussions help me to not curse out people in my life and still get my opinions out without overpowering the people in my social life with them and I love it. Carry on carry on....gays nausea, no thats wrong.......
how do these celebrities get such good drugs? i love valium and xanax
This is a sad occasion. Let's not grandstand and let's keep the comments appropriate, relevant, and in good taste. There are plenty of blogs and forums to discuss your nausea
This is a sad occasion. Lets keep the comments appropriate, relevant, and in good taste.
Wait... He "refused to take the pretty boy's" path? Isn't the same guy that played a ***? That 'is' a pretty boy. He cried in Monsters Ball, because he acted like a *** in there too. More 'pretty boy' crap. Didn't see him in A Knights Tale, the previews looked like a 'pretty boy' knight story, so that again... In the Patriot he was a 'pretty boy' son who was trying to get his fathers attention, but is killed because he fought like a girl.
I doubt this is posted, since I am being derogatory towards homosexuals with the *** comment, and implying that this guy, who seemed to be an 'ok' actor, not great, just ok, will probably set some of you off, but whatever...
Oh, and just to go ahead and respond to the some to be posted homophobic label coming my way, I am not afraid of homos, nor do I have some deep, hidden homo tendencies, I am just grossed out by it... Not fear, just nausea. Thx.
Sorry he's dead so young. That is sad no matter who the person is.
I do hope his part in Batman is well played...
Sad and shocking! His sensitive performance in "Brokeback Mountain" was Oscar winning material.
I am deeply greived by the untimely death of Heath, he will be very missed, I heart goes out to Michelle and Matilda, and his family, he always looked so happy when he was with Michelle and his daughter...I am a very big fan, and willl miss him in the movies...were I enjoyed watching him....Silvia of Orlando FL
