    Comment: The more ill the patient, the stronger the need for CABG and the higher the mortality risk. Common sense doesn't need a lot of studies to prove that fact. A 31 year type 1 diabetic, I had a quad bypass in 97 and a stent in 02; and I was out in 3 days and can still run up and down the soccer field on weekends. The health of the patient and a good doctor are the keys to success no matter what the treatment.

    Comment: This story make diabetic me pretty glad that I opted for bypass surgery instead of stents to deal with three partially blocked cardiac arteries. The eight weeks it took to recover was worth it.
