Between the team's name and the "tomahawk chop," you'd think the Atlanta Braves would run out of ways to fan p.c. controversies. But last week the team's flagship radio station, WGST, announced a contest offering five couples a chance to spend a spring-training weekend in Florida with the Braves and the right-wing radio-and-TV gabber Rush Limbaugh. Braves general manager John Schuerholz says WGST set up the Limbaugh junket "unbeknownst to anyone in our organization." But Eric Seidel, WGST's manager, says team officials-- including the GM--signed off on the deal. In any case, Seidel says, "There doesn't have to be a political undercurrent to everything Rush Limbaugh does."
