The deadly shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night was evidence of the “mission of Satan,” according to church leaders from the American Pastors Network (APN).
At least 59 people were killed and 529 injured when a gunman opened fire on a country music concert on the Las Vegas Strip, becoming the deadliest mass shooting in recent U.S. history.
Following the attack by Stephen Paddock, 64, who killed himself after shooting at a 22,000-strong crowd from the 32nd floor room at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, the APN said it was evidence of humanity's downfall.
“The mass shooting that took place last night at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas is, above everything else, a clear indication of the spiritual depravity of mankind,” APN leader Gary Dull said.
“How a 64-year-old man who, according to his brother, never really had an interest in guns was able to randomly shoot at the distance of over 300 yards and kill at least 58 people and injured more than 500 others is truly in accordance with what Jesus Christ teaches about the mission of Satan in John 10:10; to ‘steal, kill and destroy,’” added Dull, who is also an executive director of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network.
Dull then added, “Yes, this event that is stated to be the deadliest shooting in American history is truly devilish and from the pit of hell. There are still many unanswered questions about the background of the shooter, but the fact remains that this was a terrible massacre as innocent people were shot at random by a depraved individual.”
The shooter had at least 16 weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his hotel room, and additional 18 firearms were retrieved from his house in Mesquite, Nevada. A police officer who was on the scene told CNN the smoke from the guns had set off the fire alarm in his room, leading the authorities there.
