LGBT activists held Kosovo's first-ever Pride parade on Tuesday, marching through downtown Pristina with a heavy police escort.

The crowd of several hundred waved banners reading "I am out, therefore I am", "Come out now, ask us how" and "Homophobia-free zone," the AFP reported.

Organizers said the rally was "for LGBT persons who could not be part of the march because they are surrounded by homophobia and transphobia in Kosovo."

It was not announced in advance for safety reasons.
