National Pancake Day: How to Get Free Pancakes on February 27

Hope you're recovered from last week's Presidents Day festivities because it's time to mark the next holiday. Today is National Pancake Day, an annual event created by American casual dining restaurant IHOP to enjoy the popular breakfast food item. (Yes, there truly is a holiday for everything.) And that means—you guessed it—free pancakes.

Individuals that head to their local IHOP can enjoy a short stack of its Original Buttermilk Pancake free-of-charge. But the holiday isn't just about free food. Restaurants encourage diners to contribute donations that help the chain help children suffering from critical illnesses.

IHOP aims to raise $5 million through this year's celebration. Since the start of its annual flapjack festival in February 2006, IHOP has raised nearly $30 million from National Pancake Day donations.

"Every year, the brand and our franchisees look forward to celebrating IHOP National Pancake Day and helping out a great cause," Stephanie Peterson, an IHOP spokesperson, told Newsweek. "From 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., guests can come into any IHOP restaurant to enjoy a free short stack of our delicious buttermilk pancakes and all we ask in return is that they consider donating to our charity partners—Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Shriners Hospitals for Children. This year's goal is to raise $5 million for our charity partners while serving 5 million pancakes."

National Pancake Day's date changes annually—last year it was celebrated in March. But what doesn't change is the company's commitment to doing good while serving up short stacks to pancake enthusiasts.

"At IHOP, we think doing good is delicious," Darren Rebelez, IHOP's president, said in a news release. "Every stack of pancakes we serve on our signature day counts toward helping our charity partners improve the health and lives of millions of children and families across the country."

The free dine-in only offer is exclusive to participating IHOP locations in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Guam on Tuesday while supplies last. Select IHOP's, however, will serve free short stacks until 10 p.m.
