Newsmakers: Lionel Richie, Katie Couric, Ivanka Trump

He's a chart topper again with his new CD, "Coming Home"--and not just because he's Nicole Richie's father. He spoke with Nicki Gostin.

Excuse me, hands down Lionel Richie. If it comes down to making love, Barry's got that covered, but I travel the country and people say, "Lionel, you were part of the engagement, the wedding and the child." In some cases I've done four to five children.

Let me just get really bold. Chicago? Are you kidding me? I've knocked up the world.

Why do you think that when someone says Nicole went shopping, I don't flinch that much? God always gives you a great equalizer. He gives you "Dancing on the Ceiling," and then he gives you Nicole.

Yes--and thank God. There was a moment there where I was going down fast.

You are on her. I'm on her. Every single solitary day. I've given her the ultimatum, which is now . Not next year, not next month. Now.

I had to laugh with her. In my generation we did the motion picture or the album before we got the celebrity.

Let me be honest. When you found the dancing tough, you had to have the biggest 'fro.

Surely Stephen Colbert would have some problems with the truthiness of this. Last week a promotional photo of Katie Couric appeared in CBS's in-house industry magazine, in which Couric seemed to have dropped 20 pounds--from the exact same photo , which was taken in May. A CBS spokesman said an "overzealous" employee had digitally altered the photo to make her appear slimmer, without Couric's or CBS's approval. Couric, as the entire free world knows, is to take over as anchor of the "CBS Evening News" on Sept. 5, but bloggers beat her to the story. The Web went wild, giving Couric's debut even more publicity. (How CBS must have hated that.) Couric responded gamely enough. She preferred the original photo, she said, because "there is more of me to love."

Why did Donald Trump dismiss his "Apprentice" sidekick? Reportedly, the COO was spending too much time promoting herself. But Trump won't elaborate. "I did what's best for Carolyn, and I'll leave it at that," he told NEWSWEEK. But he did confirm that daughter Ivanka will replace Kepcher next season. "She was a great student at the Wharton School, and she's got personality." And she's fire-proof. Right?
