‘Pokémon Go’ Kanto Celebration Event End Time: When Does Double Candy Stop?

Pokémon from the Kanto Region have appeared more frequently in Pokémon Go since April 10, but the popular mobile game’s latest event ends very soon.

On April 17, the spawns of Kanto Region Pokémon in Pokémon Go will return to normal. If you are a relatively new player who missed out when the game first released, you’ll want to take advantage of all the perks that are still available. Here are all the details Pokémon Go players need to know to get the most out of this Kanto event, including what time it ends.

WHEN DOES KANTO EVENT END?

Niantic announced the Kanto event will end on April 17, but did not provide a specific time. However, like past Pokémon Go events, the Kanto Celebration will end at 4 p.m. EDT. Here’s a countdown clock for anyone looking for a minute-to-minute update.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE EVENT ENDS

So what can trainers do to make the most out of the Kanto event? Take advantage of the bevy of Pokémon appearing from the Kanto region to fill up your Pokedex. Also, this event is perfect for new players, as the quests to capture Mew involve a lot of the Kanto Pokémon.

Two separate quests to find Mew in Pokémon Go involve the Kanto medals. Trainers need to obtain the Silver Kanto medal (catch 50 Kanto Pokémon) and the Gold medal (catch 100 Kanto Pokémon) to proceed. Another quest tasks trainers to evolve a Magikarp into Gyarados, which takes 400 candy. This Kanto event increases the spawns of Magikarp and even doubles the amount of candy obtained, making this quest much easier.

Double candy can be obtained during the Kanto event, perfect for evolving Pokémon to fill up the Pokedex and to power them up. Just do all the normal activities you’d do to get candy: catching, hatching, transferring and walking with partner Pokémon.

The Kanto event also cuts the walking distance for partner Pokémon to obtain candy in half. Rare Pokémon with 5km walking distances like Larvitar, Beldum, Bagon etc.. will now obtain candy in 2.5km.
