Sirocco, Kalk Bay, South Africa

Located about an hour outside Cape Town, this lovely open-air restaurant is snuggled on the main street between art galleries, antiques shops and the picturesque harbor filled with fishing boats and friendly seals.

Ambience: Open just for breakfast and lunch, Sirocco is the ideal place to sip a latte before hitting the shops or swimming with penguins at the nearby beach. Decorative pillows on the white leather booth seats encourage diners to lounge in the cool ocean breeze, with huge umbrellas shielding them from the scorching sun.

Breakfast: The superb three-egg omelets are made with thoughtfully paired fillings. The bacon and Brie omelet comes with rocket and toasted ciabatta, and the smoked-salmon and asparagus version is smothered in dill-infused crème fraîche.

Lunch: Sirocco takes full advantage of being near the fishermen's docks. West Coast mussels are bathed in a white-wine and cream sauce infused with thyme and garlic. The hake and chips—served with green mayonnaise and a side salad—is a guilty pleasure. Fresh salads include watermelon, feta and pumpkin seed. The gazpacho of plum tomatoes comes with red onions, sweet basil and a soft-boiled egg.

Drinks: Located close to the heart of South Africa's wine region, the restaurant offers a wide selection of local vino; try the Klein Constantia Sauvignon blanc or the Paradyskloof merlot.
