Who Is Boney Kapoor, Sridevi’s Husband? Bollywood Producer Remains Silent on Wife's Death

Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor did not immediately issue a statement after his wife, Bollywood great Sridevi, tragically died on Saturday from “accidental drowning.” She was 54 year old.

Kapoor, 62, has produced 24 films. According to his profile on Internet Movie Database, he is best known for films like Wanted (2009), No Entry (2005), Call (2000) and Mr. India (1987). Both Wanted and No Entry were nominated for Popular Awards by the International Indian Film Academy.

Sridevi and Kapoor regularly worked together, including on the films Mr. India and her final movie, Mom.

Kapoor met Sridevi when he was married to his first wife, Mona Shourie. They had two children together: Arjun and Anshula. She had just split from her first husband, Mithun Chakraborty. Despite their relationship being controversial, Kapoor and Sridevi married in 1996 when she was 28 years old. He was 36.

“I fell in love with Sri [Sridevi] when I watched her Tamil film during the late 1970s. After watching her film, I wanted to know more about her,” Kapoor told reporters in 2013. “I had especially gone to Chennai at her house to meet her, but she was shooting in Singapore. I returned to Mumbai disheartened.”

Kapoor was desperate to woo the Bollywood superstar. “After some time, I watched Sri's Solva Sawan (1979). I desperately wanted to meet her. I wanted her to work with me. One day I went to meet her on the set (of a movie). Sri is an introvert. She doesn't talk to strangers,” he said. “She talked to me in half broken English and Hindi and just said that her mother takes care of her professional matters.”

He convinced her to work on the film Mr. India, and then he left his then-wife, Mona. In turn, Sridevi fell in love with Kapoor after he supported her through the deaths of her parents.

“Even she was there for me always. She is not only a talented actress, but a fabulous wife and mother. She still lives in her own world and doesn't get into controversies,” Kapoor remembered. “Even after so many years of our marriage, I am still madly in love with her.”

They had two daughters together, Jhanvi and Khushi.
