Around noon on Tuesday, the U.S. Navy disclosed a "potential threat" targeting the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. As a result of the threat, "force protection" was increased.
The Navy Yard dismissed non-essential personnel for the day, though the Yard itself remained open. Visitors were still welcome to enter the yard. Independent companies at the Yard were not evacuated and given the option of staying open or closing due to the threat.
The nature of the security threat is unknown, and no more details were disclosed by the Navy.
