A former White House executive chef was found dead near a hiking trail in Taos, New Mexico. Walter Scheib, who was the chef under presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, was hired by Hillary Clinton. He worked there for 11 years, bringing a New American cuisine to the White House.

Scheib went on a hiking trip on June 13. After being out of contact with relatives, he was reported missing. Authorities were able to track his location via his cellphone. His car was found in the Yerba Canyon Trailhead parking lot and his body was found 1.7 miles off of the trail. The search went on for five days and authorities early on believed he would be found alive.

Authorities did not disclose the cause of death. His body was found in a river at least 20 feet deep.
