2019 Video Game Releases: The Best February Games Ranked for PS4, Switch, Xbox and PC

February 2019 is a relatively slow month for game releases, but there are still a few hype-worthy titles dropping this month, including the BioWare shooter Anthem, the long-awaited Crackdown 3 and an expansion pack for Civilization VI.

Best February 2019 Game Releases

Anthem (Feb. 22) PS4, Xbox, PC

Javelins in Anthem let you fly around like a superhero. Bioware

This is February 2019's big release, even if the Anthem beta was a buggy disaster. A squad-based, third-person shooter featuring mech combat on alien worlds—those who've played it say Anthem isn't much like Destiny, though that's definitely our best point of comparison for now. Since this is a BioWare game, expect a rough launch and some massive patches.

Wargroove (Feb. 1) Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PC

If you're looking for an old-school tactical challenge, look no further than "Wargroove." Chucklefish

This one's for the hardcore strategy game tacticians out there. In Wargroove you're not leveling up your squad or any of the other RPG-lite features that have crept into strategy games. No, this one is pure tactics. It's an extremely well-balanced game, but don't expect it to go easy—there's no saving during battles, so save scumming won't save you.

Crackdown 3 (Feb. 15) Xbox, PC

Can your computer handle Crackdown 3? Microsoft

After a long and troubled development, during which the Crackdown series creator ditched the sequel for Fortnite creator Epic Games, Crackdown 3 is nearly upon us. But will Crackdown 3 prove the series can still go toe-to-toe with modern open-world shooters, or will this entry be behind the times? While it doesn't have the most impressive graphics, Crackdown 3's physics-based gameplay and environmental destruction could help it stand out.

Metro: Exodus (Feb. 15) PS4, Xbox, PC

A look at the newly revealed Summer location in Metro Exodus Deep Silver

Welcome to the Russian post-apocalypse. An open-world shooter, Metro pits players against various wasteland factions, plus the horrifically mutated Dark Ones. The third entry in the Metro series is more ambitious than ever, so we're hoping for something like the leap from Witcher 2 to Witcher 3, just with more guns.

And here are some of the games we're most excited for, broken down by system (you can find the month's full release calendar lower down the page).

Best Playstation 4 (PS4) Games - February 2019

There aren't any PS4 exclusives of note in February, but if you haven't yet played NieR: Automata, now is definitely the time. We're also excited to check out a console edition of Stellaristhe 4X strategy game is one of the best sci-fi experiences out there.

  1. Metro: Exodus (Feb. 15)
  2. NieR:Automata Game of the YoHRa Edition (Feb. 26)
  3. Stellaris: Console Edition (Feb. 26)
  4. Anthem (Feb. 22)
  5. Jump Force (Feb. 15)
  6. Far Cry New Dawn (Feb. 15)

Best Nintendo Switch Games - February 2019

The Nintendo Switch has a lot of exclusives this month, it's just too bad most of them look like shovelware. The bloody, top-down shooter Ape Out looks like a major exception. While it's also coming to PC, the colorful graphics and snackable action have us leaning toward the Switch version. Blazblue CentralFiction is already out for PS4, but it could be the perfect pick for 2D fighting game fans.

  1. Ape Out (Feb. 7)
  2. Wargroove (Feb. 1)
  3. Blazblue CentralFiction Special Edition (Feb. 8)

Best Xbox One Games - February 2019

Xbox hasn't had many exclusives lately, so Crackdown 3 is definitely the month's major release for the console. There's a lot of shooters coming to the Xbox One in February and several of them look like they might be worth your dollars. Even Far Cry New Dawn, coming to every console except the Nintendo Switch, might be fun, though we're getting a little sick of the iterative Far Cry series and it's alternate-year reskins of worlds we've already conquered.

  1. Metro: Exodus (Feb. 15)
  2. Crackdown 3 (Feb. 15)
  3. Stellaris: Console Edition (Feb. 26)
  4. Wargroove (Feb. 1)
  5. Anthem (Feb. 22)
  6. Jump Force (Feb. 15)
  7. Far Cry New Dawn (Feb. 15)

Best PC Games - February 2019

Gathering Storm is the second expansion pack for Civilization VI. This is what PC gaming is all about. The "romantic visual novel" Arcade Spirits also looks like a blast.

  1. Civilization VI: Gathering Storm (Feb. 14)
  2. Metro: Exodus (Feb. 15)
  3. Crackdown 3 (Feb. 15)
  4. NieR:Automata Game of the YoHRa Edition (Feb. 26)

  7. Ape Out (Feb. 7)
  8. Anthem (Feb. 22)
  9. Jump Force (Feb. 15)
  10. Far Cry New Dawn (Feb. 15)

That's it for our highlights and system-specific rankings, but here's the full calendar of February 2019 video game releases.
