Riding on a new body-on-frame platform, the 2022 Lexus LX 600 made its debut as its long-awaited redesign was revealed on Wednesday. The full-size SUV will arrive at U.S. dealerships in the first quarter of 2022.

The new fourth-generation LX benefits from more rigid architecture and a weight reduction though its wheelbase remains the same. The fresh model is 20 percent more rigid and 441 pounds lighter than the outgoing generation. This is possible, in part, because of the SUV's aluminum doors.

It takes its looks from the new Lexus NX and features looks not too dissimilar from the previous generation with a long, slimmed nose and large grille that are complemented by thin headlights. Out back, a squared rear and familiar light and logo design move the LX comfortably into modern Lexus SUV aesthetics.

Lexus will sell the 2022 LX in new Ultra Luxury and F Sport grades, both of which get unique grilles (Ultra Luxury has a seven double-bar design while the F Sport's more traditional mesh makes an appearance).

Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that delivers 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, an improvement of 26 horsepower and 76 pound-feet of torque over the previous generation's 5.7-liter V8's output. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Like the new Tundra, the revised LX benefits from newly installed electric power steering and brakes. It also gets an adaptive air suspension and active height control, which allows for four levels of adjustment: Low, Normal, Hi1 and Hi2).

The SUV rides on 18-, 20- or 22-inch wheels, depending on the buyer's preference. 2022 LX F Sport buyers get a limited slip differential that's designed to deliver better on-road performance.

The LX benefits from product engineering that has been employed in the next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser, which is not available in the U.S. It gets drive modes (Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow and Rock) and five-setting crawl control, increasing its off-roading abilities.

Lexus designers put comfort and usability at the front of their design for the SUV. The Ultra Luxury trim level seats just four, comes complete with deeply reclining seats and gives rear-seat passengers up to 43 inches of legroom. Each of the four seats is specially crafted to offset G-forces and lateral movements caused by imperfections in the roadway.

A 12.3-inch infotainment touch screen sits on the dashboard while a 7-inch screen sits below. The larger screen is home to navigation, audio controls and the terrain monitoring camera system. The smaller features climate controls and a control panel for the larger screen while the big screen's entire surface is taken up with camera angles.

Cup holder covers are bathed in scratch-resistant self-healing paint, which allows the closed area to be used as a note table.

Lexus LX F Sport grades get their own speciality seat surfaces that work to control riders during more performance-centric maneuvers. Buyers get the option of a Ultra White paint color for the exterior of the car and a Circuit Red interior only with the F Sport grade.

Each 2022 LX comes standard with Lexus Safety System 2.5+, which includes a pre-collision warning system with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian and cyclist detection. Emergency steering assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alerts with steering assist, road sign recognition, and automatic high beams round out the package.
