4-Year-Old Found Dead Next to 'I'm Sorry' Note at Florida Resort, Mother Unresponsive

A 4-year-old girl was found dead at a Florida resort next to a letter that read "I'm sorry" on Monday and the child's mother, who was also in the room, was unresponsive when police arrived, according to reports.

According to a press release from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, which was sent to Newsweek, the incident occurred on Monday when the sheriff's office received a 911 call for a possible "suicide attempt," at the Star Island Resort & Club in Kissimmee.

The sheriff's office said that a woman who police identified as Michelle Decaro, called the resort and asked security officers to conduct a welfare check on a room where she said her daughter, Jacinda Decaro, was staying. According to the sheriff's department, Michelle Decaro told the resort that she was unable to get ahold of her daughter by phone.

"Michelle and Jacinda worked together and Jacinda had failed to show up to work," the sheriff's office said in the press release.

While speaking with ClickOnOrlando News, Osceola County Sheriff Marco Lopez said that Jacinda's mother "was concerned about her daughter who was having some type of crisis."

After the sheriff's office received the 911 call, security officials with the hotel were able to enter the room. Upon entry, security officials found Jacinda Decaro and her 4-year-old daughter, Masiela, lying unresponsive on the bed.

"A note was found on the nightstand with the words, 'I'm sorry,'" the Osceola County Sheriff's Office said. "Unfortunately, Masiela was declared deceased on scene."

Jacinda Decaro had a "faint pulse" when officers arrived in the hotel room and she was transported to the Advent Health Celebration hospital where life-saving measures were performed. According to ClickOnOrlando News, the 4-year-old's mother currently remains in critical condition at the hospital.

"We don't know at this time if [Jacinda] is gonna pull through or not," Lopez told ClickOnOrlando News.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office did not release the age of the mother who was found in the hotel room.

"This is an ongoing investigation. However, at this point in the investigation there is no evidence to suggest there were any other individuals involved in the incident," the sheriff's office said in the press release.

While speaking with ClickOnOrlando News, Lopez said that the sheriff's office currently believes that this was a murder-suicide incident.

"Possibly, she put some type of medications together, gave it to the baby and then took them herself," Lopez told ClickOnOrlando. "We don't have details on if it was a mental health crisis, or if it was some sort of other things personally in her life."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.
