Adam Kinzinger Blasts Elise Stefanik Over 'Loser' Donald Trump

Representative Adam Kinzinger appeared to criticize House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik for attending a fundraising event organized by former President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Kinzinger, a Republican who represents Illinois' 16th congressional district, took to Twitter to respond to Stefanik's post about her visit to Trump's Bedminster golf course in New Jersey.

Stefanik recently replaced Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming as the third-Republican in the House and Trump praised her during a fundraiser on Wednesday night.

"On my way to Bedminster to visit with my friend President Trump for our biggest #TeamElise fundraiser ever!" Stefanik tweeted on Wednesday.

"Republicans & the American people have never been more energized and excited to defeat the Far Left & save our country!"

"And we proudly love our American flag," she added, sharing a U.S. flag emoji.

Kinzinger responded to Stefanik's tweet by pointing to the results of the 2020 presidential election.

"Trump lost. Doesn't seem like a loser is the best choice for the future," Kinzinger wrote.

Though Trump lost the election to President Joe Biden by some 7 million votes, he has repeatedly made unfounded claims that the election was "stolen" from him through voter fraud. Courts have consistently rejected these claims.

Stefanik became House Republican Conference Chair after a majority of the House GOP voted to remove Cheney, who had strongly criticized Trump's claims about the election.

Kinzinger has also been an outspoken critic of the former president and the idea that the 2020 election was fraudulent. He has also defended Cheney, saying history would see her removal as "the low point of the Republican Party."

On May 6, before she was elected as conference chair, Stefanik told former Trump campaign adviser Steve Bannon on his podcast that she supported an audit of the election in Maricopa County, Arizona, and said the nation needs to "fix these election security issues going into the future."

The organizers of the Arizona audit have been criticized for pursuing conspiracy theories, such as looking for bamboo fibers based on the unfounded claim that ballots were shipped in from Asia.

At the Bedminster fundraiser, Trump praised Stefanik, saying she was on track "to have an incredible career," according to The New York Post.

"Elise has been incredible and loyal to our movement. We have to make sure she's able to win big and raise the money she needs to help lead our party to retake the House," Trump told a room of GOP donors.

"I see she has the radical crazies after her, crazy Democrats, meaning she's already doing an amazing job as our Conference Chair," he said.

"I'm with Elise 100 percent, she's going to have an incredible career, we have to back her 100 percent," Trump said.

Newsweek has asked Representatives Elise Stefanik and Adam Kinzinger for comment.
