'Adorable'—Internet Melts as Dog Helps Rescued Squirrel in Viral Video

An adorable Border Collie has melted hearts after he helped his owner rescue and care for a baby squirrel.

The video, thought to be taken in the Canadian Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, showed images of kind pooch Berlin after rescuing the tiny animal from a body of water during their dog walk.

Berlin's owner, Leesh Rideout, then posted clips of the Border Collie grooming the baby squirrel while revealing that the dog has "never left his side" since she brought the animal home to look after him.

She explained that Berlin watches the squirrel feed on a bottle every day before cleaning him, and the animals have developed a "very special bond".

According to the American Kennel Club, the Border Collie is an affectionate and friendly breed which has high levels of tolerance and patience for small children and is generally receptive towards other dogs.

In the viral TikTok video, which racked up nine million views and one million likes, Rideout explained: "Me and my dog were hiking one day and stopped for a swim, where we found Alvin struggling in the water.

"Berlin brought him to shore and saw he was in very hard shape. We took him home with us, to try and bring him back to good health, and Berlin never left his side.

"Berlin would watch him drink his bottles and then clean him after. They would cuddle together every night to give Alvin the body heat he needed.

"Now Alvin is a little older, he and Berlin play a lot more, but he is so gentle. Because of Berlin, Alvin is still alive today. They have a very special bond that I hope will continue as Alvin grows into an adult."

The video received over 12,000 comments, with users saying they were "crying" after watching the footage and the clip reminded them of a "Pixar short."

"With all that is wrong in the world today this warmed my heart and brought a few tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story," wrote one user.

Another commented: "The most adorable thing I have seen all day."

"This has to be one of the most beautiful things I have watched on TikTok," wrote a third.
A fourth user said: "It's funny how some dog might have eaten him right up, but this dog saw a friend. They really have their individual personalities."

Newsweek has asked Rideout for comment.
