Albertville Mass Shooting As Mueller Employee Opens Fire on Colleagues in Alabama

At least two people have died and two others have been injured in a workplace shooting at the Mueller Co. facility in Albertville, Alabama, on Tuesday morning.

The fatal shooting occurred at around 2:30 a.m. at the Mueller fire hydrant facility located at 956 Industrial Boulevard, according to Albertville police chief Jamie Smith.

In a press released obtained by on Tuesday, Smith said: "It is with a heavy heart that I report to you a shooting that occurred early this morning.

"For an unknown reason an employee of the industry began firing a weapon at fellow employees....Surrounding agencies responded to the scene and everything humanly possible is being done at this time to locate the person responsible."

Officers were called to the facility after an employee began firing weapons at colleagues, fatally shooting two and injuring two others.

The department said that the gunman fled the scene in a vehicle, as it confirmed he is yet to be apprehended. Officers are analyzing the scene and gathering information about the identity and possible location of the shooter.

The two injured victims were transported to Marshall Medical Center South for treatment following the shooting. The authorities are not revealing the identities of any of the victims until their families have been informed.

In photos posted to social media on Tuesday morning, local reporters confirmed that a heavy police presence remained at the facility.

Employees at the facility were contacted in the morning and told not to report to the plant until further notice, one family member told

Police in Boaz, which borders Albertville, were called to provide backup to the authorities at around 6:00 a.m. local time, but no other information has yet been made available about the shooting.

Smith confirmed that the department would provide further details at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mueller plant in Albertville employs just under 500 people, according to News 19.

More than 4 million fire hydrants have been made at the plant since it opened in October 1976, leading Albertville to be known locally as the "fire hydrant capital" of the world, still according to News 19.

Newsweek has contacted the Albertville Police Department and Boaz authorities for comment on the shooting.
