UPDATE: WWE confirms that Nikki Cross will take Alexa Bliss' place this Sunday.

Original Story

Days before WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view, former Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss won’t be making her scheduled appearance in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match.

WWE made the announcement on its official site stating, “Alexa Bliss is not medically cleared to compete at WWE Money in the Bank this Sunday, and has been removed from the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. A suitable replacement for Alexa will be announced.”

The nature of Bliss’ injury was not disclosed, but she has a history of concussions that kept her from performing in-ring for part of 2018 and 2019.

After suffering a concussion during a house show in October 2018, Bliss would not be involved in in-ring action until January’s Royal Rumble match. She would suffer another reported concussion in March that took her out of the ring for a few weeks, but would return after WrestleMania 35.

Alexa’s last match on WWE television was on an episode of RAW where she lost to Naomi. On the go-home show of Monday Night RAW, Bliss was scheduled to compete in a fatal four-way match against Naomi, Natalya and Dana Brooke but kayfabe couldn’t compete because her ring gear was lost by an airline. Bliss had Nikki Cross replace her in the match, forming a friendship in the process.

If WWE is looking for Alexa Bliss’ replacement this Sunday they can give it to Cross, capitalizing on this past week’s show. Other healthy members of the RAW Women’s roster include Alicia Fox, Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan and Tamina. Sasha Banks is technically still on the RAW roster but has yet to appear in the company since WrestleMania amid reports of backstage drama.

WWE could also pluck an NXT Women’s superstar for the night, but it’s likely that Nikki Cross will fill-in for Bliss.

This year’s Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match will have the RAW participants of Bliss’ replacement, Naomi, Natalya, Dana Brooke, and whoever replaces Bliss as well as the SmackDown Live participants Bayley, Ember Moon, Carmella and Mandy Rose.

Bliss was the winner of last year’s Women’s money in the Bank Ladder match and cashed-in on Nia Jax to capture the RAW Women’s Championship later that night. Alexa is a five-time Women’s Champion and is the first to have held both the SmackDown and RAW Women’s Championship in their career.

This year’s Money in the Bank will stream live Sunday, May 19 starting at 7 p.m. EDT.
