It's that time of year. The annual American Music Awards (AMAs) are set to take place very soon, with details about one of the biggest nights in music starting to be revealed. Newsweek has everything you need to know about the AMAs 2021 so far, including date, nominees, host, venue, and more.
When is the AMAs2021 Taking Place and Where?
The wait for the AMAs 2021 is almost over. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 21, and will be available to watch on the ABC Network.
The official ceremony will kick off at 8 p.m. ET, with the entire show available to watch and stream live via ABC.
If you do not have access to network television, ABC live is also available to stream if you are a customer of Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, FuboTV, and DIRECTV Stream.
The AMAs will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Who Is The AMAs 2021 Host?
American Rapper Cardi B has been named the official host of the AMAs 2021.
Cardi B herself took to Instagram to announce the news, sharing a video that included a montage of her finest AM moments in the past, including performances and her numerous AMA acceptance speeches.
She captioned the post: "I'm so proud to announce, I'll be hosting the 2021 @AMAs! Tune in November 21 8/7c on @ABCnetwork."
In a statement, Cardi B said: "When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited. I'm ready to bring my personality to the AMAs stage! Thank you to Jesse Collins, ABC, and MRC for making this happen."
AMAs executive producer Jesse Collins added: "We are immensely excited to have the dynamic Cardi B bring her infectious energy to the American Music Awards as a first-time host.
"She will excite the viewers, push the limits and deliver a show that will be remembered forever!"
In total, she has received five AMAs including Favourite Artist twice and three awards for Favourite songs.
This year, Cardi B is up for three awards, including favorite female hip-hop artist and favorite music video and favorite hip-hop song for her hit "Up."
She joins a host of R&B talent who has hosted or co-hosted the AMAs in the past including M.C. Hammer (1992), Will Smith (1994), Queen Latifah (1995), LL Cool J (2001), Sean Combs (2002), and Pitbull (2013-14).
The AMAs 2021 will also mark the fifth consecutive year a Black artist has hosted the show, following in the footsteps of Tracee Ellis Ross who hosted in 2017 and 2018, Ciara who hosted in 2019, and Taraji P. Henson who fronted the show in 2020.
Who Are The AMAs 2021 Nominees?
There are numerous awards to be won on the night of the AMAs 2021, including the highly coveted prize Artist of the Year.
So far, the artists leading the nominations are Olivia Rodrigo and The Weeknd. Rodrigo holds seven nominations in total, with The Weeknd receiving six.
They are closely followed by Bad Bunny, Doja Cat and Giveon who have received five nominations in total.
The winners this year will be decided entirely by fans, with voting taking place now on TikTok.
