Amazon Prime Day 2018: Time, Deals on Computers, Kindles, Headphones
One of the best shopping days on the internet is finally here—and Amazon Prime members are ready to save. Even those who don't have the service can sign up for a free 30-day trial to take part in the day's deals. After that trial, the service costs $12.99 a month.
Prime Day features thousands of discounts on everyday items, in addition to the more rare, big-ticket items that shoppers want. The site-wide sales officially kick off at 3 p.m. EDT Monday and last through Tuesday, though Amazon devices like the Echo and Kindle were on sale as of 3 a.m. EDT, along with other products. Those devices were selling for up to 50 percent off, while Amazon Brand products like sunscreen, coffee and snacks were 30 percent off on the site.
Amazon's music streaming service is also on sale for Prime Day, at just $.99 for four months and then $7.99 after that.
Shoppers can download the Amazon App to get an early look at the deals for the day on everything from protein shake powder to comforters, furniture and electronics. Users can also set their app to notify them when a deal they want becomes available so they can jump on it before the deal runs out. Different deals become available throughout the day and a half of Prime Day, but Prime membership holders should look out for a few in particular.
Before shopping, beware that prices and deals vary from country to country. Deals listed below are specific to the United States. Amazon will also be updating its live blog throughout the day with new deals and information about the sale.
Prime Day Deals to Watch Out For
Whole Foods: Since Amazon purchased Whole Foods in 2017, the two have worked together to provide discounts to customers. Prime members who spend $10 or more during a visit to Whole Foods and scan their Prime code or enter their phone number linked to their Prime account can get $10 off to use during Prime Day online.
Computers: While the exact brands of laptops and monitors that will be discounted were not disclosed before the deals started Monday, Amazon did say discounts would be up to 35 percent off. For past Prime Days, the site has offered several different Chromebook models at low prices. Acer, Samsung and Asus Chromebooks have also been included in the sale previously.
Televisions: As with computers, Amazon hasn't released the brand names of the TVs that will be on sale, but it did confirm that there would be several sizes of 4K smart TVs at a high discount.
Headphones: Sennheiser, Bose, Sony and several other brands will offer headphones at a discount for Prime Day, according to Amazon.
Amazon Echo, Kindle: These Amazon items were on sale early in the day on Monday, ahead of the other deals. Amazon's Echo Dot was available for $29.99, $20 less than its usual price. Other Echo devices like the Show, Plus, Spot and Dot Kids were all on sale as well, with heavy discounts.
All versions of the Kindle were on sale. The classic Paperwhite was going for $79.99, $40 off its usual price. Those looking for a less expensive alternative could go with the Fire 7 Tablet for $29.99. The glare-free Kindle E-reader was on sale for $49.99.
