Here's What You Need to Know About Delta-8 Gummies

Delta-8 Could Be a Safer Way To Get "High"

It's important to consult your doctors with any medical concerns, and before making any changes or adding supplements to your health plan.

At this point, you've might have heard of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), two components of the cannabis plant that have gained traction in mainstream society. THC is most known for being the substance that causes the sensations associated with the "high" feeling, like laughter, hunger, memory impairment, relaxation, and others. Dr. Peter Grinspoon, a primary care physician and cannabis specialist, explained in a Harvard Health Publishing article that 140 cannabinoids have been isolated and identified from the cannabis plant, with THC and CBD being the most popular.

But a different cannabinoid has been making a splash recently. It's called Delta-8-THC, and it might be a new, safer, and legal way to get high—depending on where you live. What's the difference between Delta-8 and the traditional Delta-9-THC? According to Grinspoon, in a January 2021 article for Rolling Stone, it has to do with a particular chemical bond on the eighth carbon instead of the ninth but that also impacts its potency. Elaborating, Grinspoon explained that he estimated Delta-8 "has a portion but not all of the psychoactivity as Delta-9." The article reported that is the common belief in the cannabis industry and explained, "People often report that due to its reduced potency, Delta-8 provides them with a smoother, milder high that is less sedative and more functional than Delta-9." The article added that some people report less anxiety and paranoia when consuming Delta-8-THC, two of the drawbacks of Delta-9-THC.

How is this cannabinoid legal when traditional THC isn't? Forbes reported that the "2018 Farm Bill explicitly legalizes all hemp-derived cannabinoids, extracts, and derivatives with no qualifications." However, the Forbes article explained that Delta-8 doesn't exist in high enough quantities in hemp plants for market requirements. That's why it's frequently made by synthetically altering CBD into Delta-8, which might not be legal, depending on where you live.

Keep in mind that Delta-8 will cause you to fail drug tests because they don't differentiate between Delta-8-THC and Delta-9-THC, with the latter being illegal. Delta-8 products are illegal in certain states, namely: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Utah.
