Amusement Park Worker Fired Over Racial Slur Printed on Receipt

An employee at a children's amusement park in Georgia has been fired after printing a racial slur on a Black customer's receipt.

An Instagram user with the handle @iamsirblack posted a picture of the receipt on the social media platform on Wednesday. The image showed the words "Black n****" written on the receipt of a food and drinks order from Urban Air Snellville in Gwinnett County on Saturday.

"It took me a minute to really process this. But here we go. This past Saturday (7/24/2021), we had a family outing which we thought would have been a great time to have fun with family," the user wrote in a caption. "Instead it turned out to be a very disturbing act of disrespect!"

The user suggested they may take legal action, adding that the "worst part is that they tried to make it up by giving a platter of fries to us!"

A short time later, the Instagram page for the amusement park posted a "story" saying the employee in question was terminated when the incident occurred.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Urban Air Snellville apologized for the incident and noted that it is a Black-owned business.

"Urban Air Snellville, a black owned business, sincerely apologizes for the inappropriate comment from a former employee toward one of our valued guests," the statement said.

"We are a family owned and operated business and have a zero-tolerance policy toward this type of behavior. Urban Air is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and this does not represent the views or culture of our company."

The Instagram user, @iamsirblack, and Urban Air Snellville have been contacted for additional comment.

The incident is not the first time an employee has been disciplined or terminated after derogatory comments were printed on a receipt.

In June, an Arby's employee in Lafayette, Indiana, was fired after allegedly writing a homophobic slur on a gay couple's receipt.

Craig Gray posted a photo of the receipt on Facebook, writing: "So this just happened at Arby's! Happy Pride, huh?"

Gray and John Burns told NBC News they were in "absolute shock" after receiving their order receipt with the slur typed on it.

Burns said the cashier who printed the receipt attributed the incident to a "computer glitch." He said he then asked to see the manager, who proceeded to refund their order and fired the cashier on the spot.
