Businessman and 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang shared some advice for the Democrats, his former political party, ahead of its upcoming convention.
"If I'm the Democrats I invite Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski and Chris Christie to speak at the convention," Yang wrote on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on August 7.
In three follow-up posts, he listed several other Republican and non-partisan figures he'd suggest inviting.

"The goal is to make the anti-Trump coalition seem as broad as possible," wrote Yang.
Yang's suggestion is unorthodox — political conventions are usually reserved for members or supporters of a political party. However, in recent days the Harris campaign has explicitly tried to court Republican anti-Trumpers to vote for her, launching a "Republicans for Harris" campaign and winning over figures including Joe Walsh, a 2020 presidential candidate and former Illinois House Representative; John Giles, Mayor of Mesa, Arizona; and several ex-lawmakers.
Utah Senator Romney, Alaska Senator Murkowski, and former New Jersey Governor Christie have all been outspoken against Trump despite being Republicans.
Romney told The Hill in February that he would "absolutely not" vote for Trump over Joe Biden, citing a need for a president to be a good leader and role model. Romney also said he believes Trump "shows more respect for [Russian President] Vladimir Putin than Vladimir Putin deserves."
Murkowski told CNN in March that she regrets "that our party is seemingly becoming a party of Donald Trump" and did not rule out leaving the party because of Trump.
Christie said Trump is "wholly unfit to be president of the United States, in every way you can think of" during an event in April, MSNBC reported, although he didn't back Biden either.

Others on Yang's list include outspoken Trump critic and former Republican House Representative Liz Cheney, who has recently made digs against Trump and his running mate JD Vance; California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has said both Trump and Biden are "flawed;" and non-political figures including Matthew McConaughey and Mark Cuban.
The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago, Illinois, starting on August 19 and will continue through August 22. It will see the official certification of Kamala Harris as the party's presidential nominee after Biden withdrew from the race on July 21.
