Kim Sears, wife of tennis star Andy Murray, gave birth to a baby girl on Tuesday, the BBC reports.

The couple's daughter is their first child since the pair married in April 2015 at Dunblane Cathedral.

The news will come as welcome relief for the pair after a difficult few months. Kim's father collapsed courtside during the Australian Open and was taken to hospital.

Murray, who was competing at the time, admitted he was close to quitting the tournament following the news.

"When I woke up, I felt drained...and then as the day went on and I decided to play, I started to focus better," Murray said in a post-match interview following news of his father-in-law's health scare. "I was definitely more emotional tonight than normal."

Murray went on to lose in the Australian Open final on January 31 to the reigning champion and world No. 1, Novak Djokovic. It was his fifth consecutive loss in the final.

Murray will have plenty of bonding time with his newborn as he is not set to compete again until May's French Open.
