'Anthem' 1.1.1 Patch Is an Empty Excuse for an Update

Bioware has been silent for weeks about the future of Anthem , the highly-anticipated but underwhelming robotic flight simulator/looter shooter. On Tuesday, the new 1.1.1 update announcement gave fans hope that major changes were coming to breathe new life into Anthem. Instead, we got a few bug fixes, localization tweaks and removed the timed Elysian chests (though that does not appear on the actual notes).

Anthem has a new patch, le sigh EA

Here are the meager notes from EA:

Anthem 1.1.1 Patch Notes

  • Fixed an error where Weapon and Components stat values were not displaying correctly.
  • Fixed a problem where suit power level (rarity) was not correctly being calculated based on equipped items.
  • Fixed an issue with Spanish audio in a conversation in the Sunken Cell stronghold.
  • Fixed an issue with French audio in a conversation in the Sunken Cell stronghold.
  • Fixed an issue causing a slight delay in Salvaging at End of Expedition
  • Partially defeated encounters will no longer re-dispense loot from previously defeated creatures.
  • [PC ONLY] – Right clicking an item to salvage it at the end of expedition screen now requires the mouse button to be held.

Elysian chests were added in March, giving players access to new items if they completed Stronghold missions. Anthem players are starved for loot, needing to spend hours grinding the same missions over and over to find Legendary items. These chests were an attempt at making the grind more bearable, but have been removed entirely. This patch also removed a bug which allowed people to earn more loot, making the grind even more tedious.

The dwindling Anthem player base continues to cause worry about the future of the franchise. The game's subreddit has become an echo chamber of negativity, with many players unhappy with the current situation. Titles like "Stop posting. Stop playing. Stop buying." and "You know it's a sad state of affairs when you're jealous of Fallout 76" amass hundreds of upvotes from the agitated fan base. The developers of Anthem have very little communication with their fan base, posting occasionally on the forums or reddit whenever new content or information is released. Since updates trickle out maybe once or twice a month, the radio silence can be deafening.

Redditor _Robbie compared the 1.1.1 Anthem patch to the last update Bioware's last game received, Mass Effect Andromeda. Both patches were mainly bug fixes and minor updates that didn't address the underlying issues.

It's not looking good for Anthem.
