Man Cries in Mugshot Photo After Being Charged With Killing Two People

A man has been photographed weeping in his mugshot after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Anthony Roldan, aged 18, faces two felony counts of first-degree murder after being charged on Thursday.

He was arrested Wednesday in the 1100 block of West Washburne Avenue. He had been charged with fatally shooting a man and woman in Humboldt Park last May, according to a FOX32 report.

In his mugshot, that was released by the Chicago Police Department, Roldan can be seen weeping.

Authorities said Roldan shot and killed 18-year-old Adrian Navarro and 23-year-old Destiny Nunez at around 10:30 p.m. on May 21, 2021, at Franklin's Super Food and Liquors on the 500 block of North Kedzi.

Initial reporting of the incident suggested that Roldan was engaged in an argument with the victims before allegedly shooting the pair.

Nunez was shot in the torso and transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Navarro was struck multiple times in the torso and leg and was transported to Norwegian Hospital where he too was pronounced dead.

The image of Roldan crying in his mugshot has begun circulating on social media with some Twitter users dismissing his emotional reaction. Others commented on how his feelings are no longer relevant if he committed the crime and focus should be on the family of the victims.

Newsweek has contacted the Chicago Police Department for comment.

In December last year, the East Cleveland Police department shared a mugshot of Lexx Zaveir Meeks after he was charged with the murder of Kalyn Moore.

Authorities shared this to their Facebook page on December 8 and did so to bring attention to the fact that Meeks was smiling in his photo.

Moore's body was found in a field between Terrace and Euclid avenues according to East Cleveland authorities. The Medical examiner concluded that Moore was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head.

They captioned the post: "This is a booking photo of Lexx Zaveir Meeks. You would think Mr. Meeks just won a free trip to Disneyland.

"Instead, however, Mr Meeks was charged with the murder of Kalyn Moore, which her body was found on December 6th at Hawley Park.

"I can only hope that Mr. Meeks remembers his pose for court.

"We can only give our condolences to the Moore family. We hope to bring her family justice."

Those commenting on the post criticized Meeks while offering condolences to Moore's family. Some people did question why the East Cleveland Police Department chose to publicize the picture where Moore's family could see it.
