Antonio Conte has refused to give Cesc Fabregas guarantees over his place in the Chelsea team, despite a match-winning performance against Leicester City in the English League Cup on Tuesday evening.

Fabregas scored twice as Chelsea overturned a two-goal deficit against the Premier League champion, but that still may not be enough to grant him a permanent place in Conte's team.

"All the players in my squad are a possibility to play against Arsenal. There are three days before the game and they have the opportunity to convince me to put them in," Conte said after the game.

"I am pleased for Cesc because he played a good game, he showed me great commitment in the training sessions. I am satisfied when I see this behavior. This is the right way and I want my players to create good competition and, game by game, give me the opportunity to choose the best lineup."

Fabregas was excellent during Jose Mourinho's English Premier League title-winning season at Chelsea in 2014-15 but he struggled, like many of Chelsea's players, last season, and there have been doubts as to how he fits into Conte's team.

The Spaniard's next chance to impress, perhaps from the substitutes' bench, comes against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening, where Chelsea will be seeking to avoid back-to-back Premier League defeats.
