Are Coffee Shops Open Today? 4th of July Weekend Hours for Starbucks and More

While many July 4 celebrations have been cancelled or restricted amid the ongoing pandemic, coffee addicts can get still get their caffeine fix at their favorite coffee shops. Many companies are offering takeout and delivery options only and hours may vary on July 4.

Here we look at the store hours for coffee chains across the country on July 4.


Starbucks began reopening some of its closed shops from early May, with several safety measures and other modifications in place in view of the ongoing pandemic. Most branches will be open on July 4.

"We are open on Independence Day in select store locations," a spokesperson for Starbucks confirmed to

"Stores may occasionally adjust their hours based on business and customer needs, and customers can find specific store hours at," the spokesperson noted.

Normal hours tend to range from around 5:30 or 6 a.m. local time to 8 or 9 p.m. local time. Find your nearest venue at the Starbucks website.

Dunkin' Donuts

The famous donut chain also serves coffee and will be open for July 4, but hours may vary according to location. Typically chains operate from around 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time during the week, while some are open 24 hours a day. Weekend hours are usually from around 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time. Check with your local venue directly to confirm the opening and closing times.

Over 90 percent of Dunkin' Donuts locations are open for takeout service. Several safety measures have been introduced including social distancing and required hygiene training, while single-use gloves, face masks and plexiglass shields have been distributed and installed at each restaurant's front counter. Employee health checks have also been recommended using infrared thermometers, the company confirmed in a statement back in May.

Au Bon Pain

The bakery and cafe chain this week announced a selection of its branches, including in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida and other states, will be temporarily closed amid the ongoing outbreak.

"With COVID-19's far reaching and evolving impact, to protect our communities, teams and customers, we have made the very difficult decision to temporarily close select Au Bon Pain cafes," the company said in a statement Tuesday.

"We will reevaluate these café closures and will reopen when we feel it is prudent to do so. We will keep you updated as changes occur," the statement added.

Venues that remain open will be operating on July 4, but hours will vary depending on the branch. Some venues are open 24 hours a day on regular days, while weekends tend to run on reduced hours. See the company's website for details on your local branch.

Peet's Coffee and Tea

Back in May, Peet's Coffee and Tea announced it will be moving its operating to a "limited access and Mobile Order Ahead only model. This means, for our employees and our customers, there will be minimum contact.

"We're doing this to financially support our Peetniks and help limit the spread of COVID-19 during this unprecedented time. We understand that this will result in a different Peet's experience and ask for your patience at this time," the company said in a statement.

Most branches will be operating on July 4 but some may be on a reduced schedule. Normal store hours tend to be from around 5:30 or 6 a.m. local time to 8 or 9 p.m. local time. Check the hours of your nearest venue here.

Panera Bread

Back in late April, the bakery franchise announced "For the time being, we have made the decision to implement a No Access model at our company cafes," in a statement. Guests can still make orders for curbside pick-up, drive-thru and delivery services via the website or the Panera mobile app.

"We have implemented a social distancing policy within our bakery-cafes and are adhering to all governmental regulations regarding occupancy or entry," the company stated in April.
