Veterans Day, on November 11, honors veterans and military who have served the country in times of war and peace. As it is a public holiday, many businesses will be closing their doors so employees can spend time with their families.
However, some retailers are keen to make the most of shoppers looking to grab deals during the public holiday, so Newsweek has swept the internet to find out which stores are open and which are not.
Which stores are open on Veterans Day?
Albertsons: The majority of these stores will be open on Veterans Day, but might operate reduced hours. Check ahead of time.
Aldi: The website does not advise on whether Aldi stores close on Veterans Day, however on Memorial Day the stores operate limited hours.
Fred Meyer: Stores are open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. except on Christmas.
Kroger: Check with local stores on whether they are operating limited hours on this public holiday.
Safeway: In previous years, and as expected this year, stores will run regular Monday hours.
Trader Joes: According to the company's website, store hours are normally 8:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m. daily. However, for exceptions customers can visit the Stores page or print off its PDF store list.
Whole Foods: Some stores host Veterans Day breakfasts and other events, so check with local stores for more details.
Sam's Club: Stores will be operating normal opening hours according to the website.
7-Eleven: It is expected that stores will operate the normal 24-hour opening times.
Costco: Warehouses typically operate 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, however different ones will vary so worth checking local ones on the website.
Kmart: Most stores will be open on Veterans Day, but check ahead of time before turning out in case a smaller store is an exception.
Kohl's: Veterans can get double discounts during Veterans Day, according to the company.
Old Navy: The majority of stores are expected to be open 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Veterans Day, but check ahead before turning out.
Publix: Stores will be open and offering veterans 10 percent discount, according to the company.
Sears: With the recently announced closures of the store, check your local one ahead of time before making the trip out. For those that are remaining open, there are offers on Veterans Day.
Target: For the third year in a row, the store will offer 10 percent military discount on one purchase between up to November 11, 2019, for all military personnel, veterans and their families in stores and online. Guests can visit target.com/military for more information and to get verified for the offer.
Walmart: Stores are expected to remain open but check whether limited hours will be in operation at local ones.
Macy's: The department store is hosting a Veterans Day sale and will remain open.
Home Depot: According to the website, store hours may vary due to seasonality and customers should call their local store for current hours of operation.
Lowes: Use the store locator to find local opening hours.
CVS Pharmacy: These stores should be open on Veterans Day, though check ahead for any limited hours.
Duane Reade: Veterans can enjoy discounts in stores on Veterans Day.
Rite Aid: Check local stores for any limited operating times.
Walgreens: Military and veterans can take advantage of in-store deals on Veterans Day.
BJ's Wholesale Club: Holiday hours do not start at this store until November 17, but still call ahead to ensure limited hours are not in operation on Veterans Day.
Dollar General: Dollar General will operate at normal business hours for Veterans Day, the company told Newsweek. Localized store operating hours may be found on the Store Locator.
Family Dollar: Stores are expected to be open on Veterans Day, but limited hours could be in operation.
Liquor stores: State and local laws will dictate whether liquor stores will be open on Veterans Day. For example, Arizona doesn't have any restrictions for buying liquor on holidays.

Toys R Us: These stores are permanently closed in the U.S.
Mall of America: Normal hours will be in operation on Veterans Day, which are 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
