'Are You Pulling Our Leg?': Woman's Hilarious Rant About Cost of Lamb Divides Commenters

One woman's hilarious Facebook rant about the cost of lamb has divided commenters.

Posting on the public "What's on in Ramsbottom" page, Rozalia Linder shared that her husband went to the store to pick up a leg of lamb. When he returned, however, she was "mortified" to discover that he'd paid more than $40 for the cut of meat.

"I sent Clive to Tesco for a leg of lamb...£30.86p!!!" she wrote. "Absolutely mortified at the price!! He did question the price and accepted the answer and paid...however, I'm not prepared to pay this!!

"Some families don't even have £30 a week to feed their children," she continued. "Something needs to be done...I will be taking this item back to Tesco tomorrow and asking for my money back!!!!!!"

So far, the post has received 958 likes and over 800 comments.

According to Al Jazeera, food prices hit an all-time high in 2021.

"The FAO's [the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization] Food Price Index, which measures the monthly change in the international price of cereal, dairy, meat, vegetable oils and sugar, jumped 1.6 points in November from the previous month to 134.4," reported the outlet.

"That is the highest level in a decade and the fourth consecutive month the index has risen," Al Jazeera continued.

The network did note that the meat index in November fell "0.9 percent from October." However, it was still "17.6 percent above what it was in November of [2020]."

Many commenters felt that Linder was overreacting, and argued that she was wrong to try and return the meat.

"You're not getting a great deal of sympathy Rozalia Linder. And you don't deserve a shred of it," wrote one Facebook commenter. "Price is marked clearly. Expecting a refund on food because you think it's too expensive is way off the mark. I suspect and hope Tesco [doesn't] refund."

"So you want a refund because your husband bought what you sent him to the shop for and you think he paid too much? Can your husband not decide what to spend? Have you not bought lamb before? Or heard about the cost of everything going up? I dread to think what you think about the cost of diesel lately," said another.

Others agreed that the price of the meat was ridiculous.

"Seriously. You can get nearly a [week's] shopping in Aldi for that? That's so expensive," replied one Facebook user.

A majority, however, took to the comments section to joke about poor Clive and share their best puns.

"Are you pulling our leg???" asked one user.

"Can we all just stop Lamb-Basting Clive for a minute please," said another.

Someone else added: "I think Clive has been silenced. Just like the lambs."

The post also led to the creation of a "CLIVE AID" fundraiser, the proceeds of which will be donated to a local food pantry.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Linder said that she's decided against returning the lamb. Instead, she's also going to donate the cut of meat to a local food pantry.

"I want some good to come out of all this," she said.
