For those who follow all of ARK's various versions, today's console update bears a striking resemblance to PC patch v289.100 that released in the middle of January. Like that one, this patch heavily prioritizes performance improvements over adding new features. The resulting file size may be murder on your data cap, but the fixes contained in those gigabytes should provide a better experience for vanilla and Season Pass survivors alike. Patches like these may not be the sexiest to write about, but they're the bedrock of a more stable and expandable experience in the months ahead.

In terms of the fixes themselves, any safeguards against exploits are widely appreciated. The C4 changes, for example, mean griefers can't descend upon your raft and throw C4 on it to make it explode. Removing the ability to mesh through chairs is also a solid way to ensure play remains fair. ARK update 1.86 may not have the fancy bells and whistles some fans want, but there's a lot here to keep the hardcore player base engaged.

ARK: Survival Evolved is available on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch. This patch is only applicable to PS4 and Xbox One.
