Arkansas Woman Wanted to Frame Husband for Rape of Girl, 13, and Child Porn After He Kicked Her Out

An Arkansas woman has been sentenced to six years probation after reporting her husband to police, claiming he downloaded child abuse images and raped a 13-year-old girl.

Cherie Renee Bolton, 34, of Siloam Springs, pleaded guilty in the Benton County Circuit Court last week and will have to register as a sex offender and pay roughly $2,000 in fines, KFSM-TV reported.

The suspect admitted to distributing or possessing child pornography and filing a false police report. The judge ruling over the case, Brad Karren, decided Bolton will have to serve the full six-year sentence. In March, she pleaded not guilty after prosecutors alleged she attempted to frame her partner.

Bolton was arrested on January 22 last year after police determined she likely fabricated her story, which she first reported to Siloam Springs law enforcement on May 24, 2017.

At the time, she claimed her husband attacked her after she caught him sexually assaulting a young girl. She showed officers three images of child abuse on a phone she said could be accessed by the man. However, detectives found the timeline of events to be suspicious. They determined Bolton's partner kicked her out of their home on May 22 and the images were likely downloaded by the woman on May 23.

The husband and young child—both unnamed—denied the allegations. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Bolton presented officers with bruising as evidence of her husband's attack but it was only a faint mark. The wife refused medical attention at the time despite claims she was suffering severe pain.

During an interview with police in a December 2017, Bolton indicated to investigators she downloaded the child abuse images because she had been angry at her husband for restricting access to their children. She later claimed her memory was hazy due to being high on drugs.

The suspect partially blamed the actions on her mental health, saying she was having a manic episode, according to KFSM-TV, who obtained a probable cause affidavit at the time of the initial arrest.

Bolton said after being kicked out of her home by her husband she had met a man off Craigslist and taken meth in a motel in West Siloam Springs, Delaware County, Oklahoma. She told police that the images of young girls may have been downloaded during her stay there, KFSM-TV reported, citing the law enforcement records. After denying the allegations in court in March last year, Bolton was freed pending trial on $75,000 bond.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Bolton's sentence had been reached as part of a deal with the prosecutors after she initially faced a decade behind bars. She had no prior criminal convictions in the state.
