About 10 students were arrested and seven were injured after a fight broke out at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis on Thursday.

Officers from the Indianapolis Police Department responded to the school around 1:30 p.m. EDT for an incident that began as a fist fight, according to WXIN. Between eight and 10 arrests were made on charges of disorderly conduct and seven people sustained minor injuries. Three people who were injured were transported to the hospital and four others were treated on the scene and released.

Newsweek reached out to the Indianapolis Police Department but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Arsenal Technical High School confirmed an incident took place at the school on Twitter and informed parents that they could pick up their children in the student parking lot across from the rear entrance of the school. A subsequent tweet said students were leaving campus safely on buses around 2:30 p.m. EDT.

"This is ridiculous," a parent told WISH. "Kids should be able to come here and learn without having to deal with people that don't want to learn."

Police received reports of up to 300 people being involved in the brawl, according to the Indianapolis Star, and Marquilla Rover, a student, said the fight began in the lunchroom but made its way into the school's courtyard.

Another student, Jakob Kelly, told the The Indianapolis Star that the fight started out small before turning into a "full riot" and said he saw people getting sprayed with mace. "When I went to the bathroom, there were kids cleaning their faces," he explained.

The Indianapolis Police Department told multiple outlets that the fight involved a large crowd of students who had gathered to watch, but the physical blows took place between about 10 students.

Sharnetta Stewart, whose son attends the school, told The Indianapolis Star that she never received a call from the school about what was going on and isn't certain she'll be sending her son back to the high school.

It's unclear how the fight began and WXIN reported no weapons were found at the scene. RTV reporter Katie Heinz tweeted that the school district confirmed class will resume session tomorrow with extra security measures in place. This is the second week of classes for the 2018–2019 school year.

The exact injuries to the students have not been released and information regarding the condition of the students who were hospitalized is not known at this time.
