'Assassin's Creed Odyssey' DLC 'Legacy of the First Blade' Release Date Revealed

Assassin's Creed Odyssey may have felt like it was a never-ending slog (for some of us anyway), so now's the time to release a new expansion to make the experience last even longer. The first major DLC for Assassin's Creed Odyssey is called Legacy of the First Blade, and will be available for download starting Dec. 4.

The first major DLC for Assassin's Creed Odyssey is available on Dec. 4 Ubisoft

Based on the trailer, which can be viewed above, the Legacy of the First Blade story seems to revolve around your hero (either Alexios or Kassandra) meeting a mysterious old man to lay the foundation of what would become the Assassins. You can see a hidden blade pop out of the old man's wrist gauntlets at the 20-second mark in the trailer. Remember when Assassins had to cut off a finger to hide their blades? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

The trailer also suggests there might be an emphasis on stealth combat in Legacy of the First Blade. While the mysterious man is talking in the trailer, he mentions that there is "even more reason to keep to the shadows." This DLC sounds like it is making up for the lack of "Assassin" in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

It's possible the Legacy of the First Blade DLC will replicate the Cultist page from the base Assassin's Creed Odyssey game. The figures with the creepy, full face masks in the trailer look like they're all part of some secret society of evildoers. I wouldn't be surprised if the central focus of the DLC is destroying the members of this society like you did the Cult of Kosmos.

It also looks like there may be new upgrades to your ship. The trailer has a brief glimpse of naval combat at around the 1:13 mark in the video, and there's a shot of flames blasting from the front of a ship. I don't remember that upgrade in the base game!

Legacy of the First Blade is the first of two planned DLC expansions for Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and will be released episodically in three installments. Each installment is said to take six hours or so to complete, meaning both full DLC experiences add 18 hours of gameplay each. The second is titled "The Fate of Atlantis," but no information is available yet about this DLC. Both are available through the Assassin's Creed Odyssey Season Pass, and are available separately as well.

Legacy of the First Blade will be ready to download starting on Dec. 4 for PS4, Xbox One and PC gamers.
