Elderly California Man Punched in Face After Road Rage Incident, Police Searching for Suspect: 'I Could Feel Everything Just Split Apart'

Authorities are searching for a man accused of punching a pensioner in the face during a road rage incident.

Neil Starr was left with a bloody nose and injured eye after he was attacked by a man decades younger than him outside the Dollar General store in Buckhorn, California, he told CBS13.

The 73-year-old said the incident was sparked by a polite gesture on his part seconds after he pulled into the store's parking lot.

He had been waiting for a woman to push her shopping cart in front of his vehicle when a man who had pulled up behind him appeared to grow impatient.

Starr told CBS 13 that the man began screaming and yelling before he "raced" his vehicle around his and almost hit the woman with the shopping cart.

Starr said he then got out of his car to confront the man. He approached the man's vehicle and tapped on his window to ask him what he was doing.

"I got out and literally just hit the window and I said, 'What are you, crazy?'" Starr told CBS 13.

But he was blindsided when the man, who he described as "big and buff," jumped out of his vehicle and attacked him, leaving blood everywhere.

"He got out, grabbed me by the shirt and just bam... I could feel everything just split apart, then he hit me again in the eye," Starr added.

Starr described the rage he saw in the man as "unbelievable." He said: "I'm a senior citizen. What are you doing? Ya know?"

Other customers of the Dollar General store were stunned when they heard about the attack.

One customer, Rosemarie Shelton, said she had a message for the suspect, who she described as a "turd" for attacking Starr.

"Your mother would be ashamed of you if you were raised the right way," she told CBS 13.

Starr, who has lived in Buckhorn for 40 years, says he remains positive despite suffering physical and mental trauma.

He visited the Amador County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday ready to press charges, according to CBS 13.

The sheriff's office is investigating the incident. They said the suspect they are looking for is a white man in his mid-20s.

He was driving a tan or brown Honda sedan, according to the sheriff's office.

Newsweek has contacted the Amador County Sheriff's Office and Dollar General for comment.
