'The Baby-Sitters Club' Landline Phone Has An Actual Number You Can Call

The Baby-Sitters Club might be a very 2020 adaptation of the Ann M. Martin books, but it has kept one element from the '80s and '90s. The club can be reached via a throwback, see-through landline phone on the Netflix show, which one of the club members says they bought on Etsy. Anyone who calls the number of this world in the real world is in for a surprise, as it is a working number.

To promote the show, Netflix has set up the number as an official Baby-Sitters Club line. All fans of the show have to do to reach it is to call 203-456-9090, alongside the dialing codes for your country.

Writing on Instagram, cast member Momona Tamada revealed what fans who called the number could expect. The Claudia actor wrote: "Have you called the Baby-Sitters Club yet? The phone lines are now open at 203-456-9090. Take the quiz to find out which BSC member you're most like and tag me in your results! P.S. Standard data and/or mobile rates may apply."

As well as taking a quiz to find out which member of the club they are most like, fans can also hear some advice for setting up their own baby-sitting service, and apply to join The Baby-Sitting Club and get a membership card sent to them by text, as well as the results of which girl you are.

Fans of the Netflix show have been sharing their results on Facebook. One user, for example, was told she was Kristy (Sophie Grace), described as "headstrong and high energy with a heart of gold and always first to step up to the plate -- especially if that plate has pizza on it."

This is not the first time that Netflix has put real callable phone numbers into its shows. An episode of Stranger Things Season 3, for example, revealed Murray Bauman's (Brett Gelman) number. Calling it, fans held a voicemail message that gave a hint of what might happen in Season 4.

The message said: "Hi, you have reached the residence of Murray Bauman. Mom, if this is you, please hang up and call me between the hours of 5 and 6 p.m. as previously discussed, OK? If this is Joyce, Joyce, thank you for calling, I have been trying to reach ya. I have an update. It's about, well, it's probably best if we speak in person. It's not good or bad, but it's something."

Speaking to Slate about why she kept this throwback clear phone in her modern adaptation of The Baby-Sitters Club, showrunner Rachel Shukert said: "I knew people that had that phone—and I didn't have the phone—but it was the coolest phone I'd ever seen. When I pictured them all sitting in Claudia's room, which I did constantly as a child, I would picture that phone being the one that rang. And so when I wrote the pilot, I was very specific in the stage directions about what kind of phone it was."

The Baby-Sitters Club is streaming now on Netflix.
