'Bachelor' Fans Slam ABC for Picking Clare Crawley as Next Bachelorette Over Hannah Ann Sluss

Some of Bachelor Nation is not happy with the current Bachelorette choice after Hannah Ann Sluss was engaged to—and dumped by—Bachelor Peter Weber. A rally of supporters for Sluss took to Twitter to explain why she should have been offered the coveted position after it was already given to Clare Crawley.

Sluss accepted an engagement to Weber in Australia at the end of the season. The proposal scene was featured in Tuesday night's episode of The Bachelor. Shortly after, though, it was revealed that Weber's love story didn't end there. Weber and Sluss broke up when the former Bachelor revealed his heart was still torn between Sluss and Prewett, even after filming.

This isn't the first time a Bachelor has ditched their final choice because of lingering feelings for the runner-up. Most recently, this happened on Arie Luyendyk's season of The Bachelor. Jason Mesnick was also guilty of the same decision. After Luyendyk dumped Becca Kufrin in what was considered one of the most brutal Bachelor moments, she was announced as the next season's Bachelorette.

Sluss wasn't given that opportunity. A week before Weber's finale, ABC revealed Clare Crawley would be handing out roses. Crawley first appeared on the series six years ago when she was the runner-up on Juan Pablo Galavis' season.

Before the Bachelor finale, fans seemed excited for Crawley's season. She'll be 39 when filming begins, which makes her the oldest Bachelorette so far. Many fans praised ABC for this decision, as it seems to step toward a more diverse season in terms of age.

That seemed to change for many on Tuesday night. While few viewers slammed Crawley, they did uplift Sluss and her right to find love.

Throughout the season, Sluss was appreciated by fans for her kind nature. She found herself in some drama at the start of the season when she opened a bottle of Champagne with Weber. The bottle belonged to Kelsey Weier, who was baffled at Sluss' actions. Sluss claimed she didn't know the bottle belonged to Weier, and Weier was emotional over the incident for days. It became known as "Champagne Gate" throughout the Bachelor community.

Weier was considered for the role of Bachelorette, according to ABC. She was the only one from Weber's season. Other past Bachelor contestants like Tia Booth, Tayshia Adams and Hannah Brown were considered. Brown, the last Bachelorette, was apparently the network's first choice, though she and ABC were unable to agree on pay, according to Reality Steve.

An official air date of The Bachelorette has yet to be announced but is expected in early summer.
