Bachelorette Clare Crawley Says Dale Moss' 'Mutual' Breakup Statement Was Surprise to Her, Too

Clare Crawley just addressed her recent split from Dale Moss. The former Bachelorette wrote on social media that she found out about Moss' so-called "mutual" statement announcing their breakup at the same time as fans.

"I was made aware of a 'mutual' statement at the same time you all were, so I've needed some time to really digest this," Crawley shared on Instagram on Thursday, two days after Moss shared his announcement. "Speaking for myself, my intentions with this relationship have been very clear, so the truth is I am crushed."

Crawley and Moss met on The Bachelorette this past summer. Their romance shocked Bachelor Nation and became a breakout storyline when Crawley changed the show's rules to accommodate what she assumed was true love. Crawley and Moss were engaged after just three episodes, and she left a whole lot of men behind to pursue a relationship with him. (The guys, meanwhile, had to start over with a second Bachelorette.) Since then, the couple has seemed inseparable on social media.

But Moss revealed in a statement on Tuesday that they were splitting up, following rumors that they were spending some time apart. "I wanted [sic] share with you all that Clare and I have decided to go our separate ways. We appreciate the love and support we've received from so many people, but this is the healthiest decision for both of us at this time."

In her Thursday statement responding to Moss' announcement, Crawley acknowledged that this is just the latest in a string of difficulties she's been facing lately. "This is not what I expected or hoped for and am still trying to process all of this," she wrote. "2020 was one hell of a year, with COVID, battling severe anxiety post-show, balancing a new public relationship, all while slowly losing my mother. It hasn't been ideal circumstances, but that's life right. I have been looking forward to the light at the end of the tunnel."

The former Bachelorette concluded her statement by commenting on her relationship with Moss directly. "Our relationship was not perfect, but I can say that I was genuinely invested with all of my heart. I may not have the answers but I do know this- I will continue to show up, stand by my word, and be committed to love."

Moss and Crawley's engagement was one of two on Season 16 of The Bachelorette. Tayshia Adams, who stepped in after Crawley left with Moss, was also engaged on the series. She and Zack Clark appear to be happily together after filming.

Crawley has appeared on five Bachelor franchise seasons, including Bachelor in Paradise, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and The Bachelor Winter Games, which coincided with the Winter Olympics in 2018. Crawley was also briefly engaged to another contestant—Benoit Beausejour-Savard—after the Winter Games series, though they split a few months later.
