Where Is Yonaguni and What Do Bad Bunny's Lyrics Mean in English?

Less than a month after making his debut on Saturday Night Live, Bad Bunny released a new track on Thursday.

Yonaguni is the Puerto Rican star's first official single since La Noche de Anoche was released in February. The latter track was one of the four singles extracted by Bad Bunny's most recent album, El Ultimo Tour del Mundo, which was released in November last year and became the first all-Spanish album to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and contained four singles,

The song's release came accompanied by the obligatory video clip, in which the singer attempts to forget his love interest. In the clip, Bad Bunny eats alone at a sushi restaurant, gets a tattoo, attends a party, practices martial arts and yoga all to seemingly no avail.

Where is Yonaguni?

The westernmost inhabited island of Japan, Yonaguni is part of Yaeyama Islands and lies 67 miles off the east coast of Taiwan, between the East China Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

The island was occupied by the U.S. between 1945 and 1972, before being returned to Japan to form a part of the Okinawa Prefecture.

The island gained worldwide notoriety in 1986, when local divers discovered an underwater rock formation featuring staircase-like terraces. While the so-called Yonaguni Monument attracted plenty of interest, claims that the formations were man-made monoliths were dismissed by Japanese authorities and several geologists believe the formation is instead of natural origin.

What do Bad Bunny's lyrics mean in English?

As usual, the Puerto Rican singer sings in his native Spanish in Yonaguni, but part of the song also features him singing in Japanese.

As mentioned above, in the song Bad Bunny attempts to forget a love interest, who appears to be living on Yonaguni. The singer tells the woman he would be prepared to fly over to Japan to be reunited with her.

"Thinking of you, baby, but when I drink," he sings.

"Your name comes to mind, your face, your laugh, and your hair [...] Tell me where you are, for you I'll get on a flight. And to Yonaguni I'll make it."

Is Bad Bunny on tour?

In April, the singer announced plans for a 2022 tour in support of El Ultimo Tour del Mundo. The tour will kick off in Denver, Colorado on February 9 and will feature stops across the West Coast, before moving to the East Coast. The tour ends in Miami, Florida, on April 1.
